Last week I was driving around just fine. I made a stop at the bank and when I started the truck back up, the ac wouldn't blow at all. I called Chevy and set up an appointment to put the truck in the shop for a repair. I continued to drive around with no ac. The next morning, I got in the truck and headed to the gas station before going to the dealership. After my fill up, I restarted and the ac just started blowing again. I thought WTF and just brought it to the dealership to get it looked at anyway.

They kept my truck for 3 days and came up with the compressor, orifice, and accumulator as well as seals needed to be replaced. The total bill was $1459.06 . I used my truck Thursday afternoon and Friday. I did not drive the truck at all over the weekend. The ac worked fine all day today until about 45 minutes ago. I turned the truck off and the ac was on and fine. When I restarted the truck, NO AC!!!

Anyone have this happen to them? Any clues from you mechanically inclined people??

Take the Rincon to work:) What do you mean by no ac? Does it stop blowing cold air, or stop blowing air completly?

check and make sure that your switch in the dash, that actually turns the a/c on and off, works correctly. next time turn the fan switch and a/c button off first before shutting the engine off. you may be able to locate the problem by doing that. i use to never shut the switch off prior to killing the engine and after a while it took its toll on the compressor. the repair shop fixed pretty much everything you had listed and said next time shut the system down prior to killing the motor. replacing the switch would be cheaper than the compressor and other items. i hope this helps. I just had to replace the resister and wire connector for the blower motor. I purchased the parts online through a GM website and got the parts really cheap and they are NEW OEM parts.

Yukon04....I know you and I'll get you! LOL

Dred, I normally don't turn the system off. I've been trying to get into that habit.

When I saw the ac won't work, what I mean is that the ac nor the heat will come on and blow. I checked the resistor when I got home. It looks new. This really sucks!

From what I have read about the resistor, it usually starts going bad with 1 or 2 speeds not working for a while. Eventually the rest of the fan speeds, except high, go out and stay out. Where is comes and goes, I would think there is a bad connection somewhere. Do you have a shop manual? If not, it was either Longress or Mudbuddy that can get the wiring schematic for you.

I'll check with those guys. I don't have a shop manual. I've checked everything that I can...relay, fuses, resistor, etc. But it's beyond me.

I did get f'ed at the dealership! I found the problem. The fan speed resistor has a 7 pin female connector that plugs into it. The ground on that harness was slightly melted and making a bad connection. I called the dealer and told them they will be fixing this problem and at no cost to me or face a lawsuit for the $1400 repair plus my wages for 2 days off of work. I know to the dealer that's chump change, but it's that principle homie!

my trucks resister went out and it took the connector with it. I had to order a new connector harness and a resister. GM has upgraded these parts. However they won't do a recall. Stupid dumb.... Anyways I ordered these parts from Jay at www.gmpartsnetwork.com They have the best prices. They should be delivered in the next day or so. I'll let you know how it goes. The connector has to be soldered in, DO NOT use butt connectors to wire in the new harness. Afterwards everything will be sealed with heat shrink tubing and hopefully I'll never have to worry about messing with again. Let me know how it goes. If I get a chance I'll upload some photos of the parts if that helps????

You always do. Seriously, has anyone ever gone to the stealership and walked out thinking, "Damn I got a kick@ss deal!" F*ck no, if i'm forced to go there I usually do something like this: when they tell me the price of the parts/labor.

Hornsfan, that is the damn truth. They should at least give us the paddles to restart our heart as we slump over the counter from shock

That's the funniest thing I've heard all day. Thanks for making me laugh. I have to tell you that the parts I ordered to get my A/C working again, are now on BACKORDER!!!! I don't mind swettin, but usually I have something to show for it, like yard work or something, not just sitting in the truck driving. Oh well.

    Re: Need help...ac trouble

I just went through that on my OBS. New fan, resistor, relay. Ended up being the pigtail and the dash switch were burned up. I have never taken my truck to the stealership, except to the parts counter. Even that hurts though.

    Re: Need help...ac trouble

I have a friend with a 2003 Tahoe, and her fan switch will work on 1,2,3, and 4. However, if you put it on 5, it will not blow any air, and 4,3,2,1 will also stop working. You have to put it back to 0 then 1,2,3, and sometimes 4 will work again. Do the parts mentioned above need to be replaced? Thanks for your replies in advance.
