I have had my radio head and dash cluster stolen in my 1991 c1500. I have replaced the radio head with one from a bone yard. The problem is you can turn the radio on and it powers up, you can select the volume, but it will not work, the other controls are the same way, you can select them but they will not respond to the controls. I have tried several radio heads from different yards and all act the same way...is there a theft code for the radio head? Is there an aftermarket radio that fits this model truck and dash?
    Thanks

You can go to Walmart and buy the adapter that replaces part of your dash and takes a standard H/U. You'll also need the antenna plug adapter to go from GM to standard. Go to Crutchfield.com and put in the model of your truck, and it will show you various H/U that will fit. It should say adapter required. Click on that and it should show you what you need. (At least that's how I remember Crutchfield's site). Or you can go to Best Buy, they should have everything you need. About $15 total for adapters.

Any din sized head unit will fit with dash kit.

And the aftermarket h/u will have 20 years of technology on the factory system and sounds a little bit better. If you want to keep the stock radio, the control box above the gas pedal sounds like it's bad.

    Re: Radio head problems

So I guess you figured out your dash cluster problem, and the one that I removed out of one truck, then pulled one from another truck so I could install and test the first one, including taking a video of it showing the speedo working...was a waste of my time?

Glad you got it figured out, I guess.
