My heated seats stopped working on my 04 silverado. It clicks on but will only stay on for roughly 3 secs. I can hear what sound like a relay clicking but I'm unsure where it is or whether its something else. Any ideas?

    Re: Heated seat problem

It is the seat element it self. I have had my drivers seat go out on me twice already

The element burns out/shorts out. So what happens, when you turn it one, it begins to draw two much current the module in the door acts as a breaker... i accutally have my bill from the first time it was fixed on my desk..

total, with parts and labour came to bout 300 bucks.
Keep in mind, i had the first time done up in Alberta canada, where every thing specially labour is inflated....but it was at the dealership so it probaly evened it self out

thankfuly both times i had it under warranty, but i do not have the bill from the second time when done here in vegas

probablh the thermostat in the element that keeps your arse from frying is failing to properly function

without having stood there and got to see how it was done, i would image the biggest pain in the ass would be getting the leather cover back over the foam/springs

    I honestly couldn't say

i don't know if there is a thermostat in the seats... cause all the element is a resistor, and the module in the door regulates the current traveling threw it... more current the hotter it gets...

Let me ask you this... does the passeneger side work? i found (and i was pissed with this cause it was -40 when mine went, and those seats are COLD at that temp) that i could turn my passanger side on without a problem, but soon as i clicked the passeneger on, it would stay on for a few seconds and then trip both of them... and neither of them would work untill i shut down the truck

Do you think it would be cheaper to just buy a new seat?

aahhh... i don't know... i think you would be pretty hard pressed to find a junk yard that would want to sell you just one seat of two... and if he did... well he'd bend you over pretty good

IMO its worth to take it to the stealership and let them do it for the 300 bucks (if you can afford the lack of your truck for a few days). That was 300 bucks up north in Canada, where like i said ebery thing is inflated... might be alittle more reasonable

the other thing bout the seats from the wrecker..is you have no idea what your getting... the seat motor couldg give out on you in 2 weeks... and i have yet to see a junk yard warranty anythign eletircal

    Re: Heated seat problem

I was thinking about going on Gm parts direct and ordering the elements on there and putting them in. I'm just worried about how to get the leather off. I also want to make sure its the problem before I go ahead and order the parts. I know the dealer will wack me just to look at it.
