I just bought this truck 98 ext. z71 black short bed, and they said it has a new fuel pump, and when I bought it the think was empty. So I filled it up and, the gas gauge was at the F mark wigging out, in at about 1/4 of an inch span back and fourth really fast, and sence then it just stays there. I use the trip counter to see how many gallons I have used. Every so offten it will read correct.

So my question is this, is it the gauge or the sender having issues?

Also I want to put in the overhead display. I have the concel for it, but not the display nor harness once I get those two things it should work right? Is my truck supost to have keyless entry? Its the slt, with abs.

Re: Gas gauge and other questions

same thing happened when i bought my 98 k1500 burban...i changed out the fuel pump and sending unit and it made it read and work correctly, BUT, it still jerks around all the time, but in the same area. it always reads the correct gas, it just looks like a gas needle on crack - if that makes sense. and if they changed it drop the tank and see if the wires have been spliced (most people who change out their pumps dont go through the dealer, and these need to be spliced and rewired. because the dealer pumps have original plugs i think, so they wouldnt be spliced) hopes this helps.

I have the paper from the shop that did it. Like I said the gauge works some times, but most of the time its "on crack" at the F mark.

Look at the RPO code list on the inside of the glovebox. Code AU0 (zero) is for keyless entry. If it's listed, it came with it. You can get the remotes online. Here's one place...

You can program it yourself, only takes a few minutes.

I think at times the oil gauge moves around a little, but I guess I deal with it reading wrong, till the pump goes out again then. No biggy just always makes me feel good, then I look at the miles I have on the tank and then it goes away
