I am having a unique issue with my sons 93 Yukon. When you turn the truck on, or for that matter, shut it off, there is a popping noise over by the blower motor. It lasts for about 15 seconds and is very annoying.

I know it isnt the blower itself, but it's right in that neighborhood. Almost like somthing is trying to open or close and can't.

I would appreciate any help you may offer on this one.

I believe it might be the blend doors, I am not 100% though. My Jeep did the same thing and i always thought it was the blend doors.

If you're not dead set on having a working recirculate/fresh air function, you can reach under there and unplug the actuator. It's not working anyway, and unplugging it will save you from having to listen to it knock every time you turn the key on or off.

    I have the same problem.

I haven't played with it enough to figure out what a/c/heater functions trigger it, though. By reading your writeup, only the recirculate/fresh air actuator will make this noise?

Depends on the conditions. If it's happening each time you start the truck, and each time you shut it off, it's the recirc/fresh air acutator. The truck runs it at those times.

It's a "dumb" acutator - the system has no idea where it's really positioned; just two wires to the motor. It operates off an assumed position. The controller powers it for a certain amount of time and hopes for the best.

EDIT - it's easy enough to isolate; you can reach up in there and pop the harness off it and see if the noise stops. FWIW; I haven't seen the other two actuators fail, ever, though I'm not saying they don't. I think at least the hot/cold mix has control lines that report its position, though honestly I've never paid close enough attention. The only real failure I've seen on the vent position actuator is gummed up linkages that need cleaning/lube.

Our company truck (94 Chevy) had the vent position actuator mess up and had to be cleaned.

Thanks for clearing that up! That's exactly my problem.
