I have a 2003 Silverado and apparently the turn signal switch is bad. Is it possible to replace the switch without pulling the steering wheel? I have a Chilton repair manual and from reading over it, it appears that I can just pull the steering column cover off (and disable the air bags) to do this.

    Is that correct?

never worked on an NBS column yet, but if it is anything like the OBS column then id have to say yes it can be done, when you have the upper and lower shrouds off, you Should be able to turn the steering wheel and expose a Torx screw which is one that holds the multifunction lever in. I could be absolutely wrong tho

Thanks for the input. Guess I'll just have to take the steering column cover off and see what it looks like in there.

hi mate why don't you try this one.Use the flashlight to look underneath the driver-side dashboard and find the fuse panel.Locate the old flasher on the back side of the fuse panel. The flasher looks like a small tin canister.Pull the old flasher out of its socket by hand.Plug the new flasher into the flasher socket by lining up the prongs and pushing it gently, but a full force, into the socket. Make sure it is fully seated.Push the turn signal stalk to one direction or the other to verify the new flasher works.

Yeah you can. Disconnect the battery first and let it sit for 30 mins to an hour! But yeah I replaced the one in my 99 NBS Sierra and didnt have to remove the steering wheel.

And summerscheifer, the turn signal switch is a multifunction switch. If cruise control or the wipers arent workin properly, the flasher isnt gonna help. I replaced mine casue CC wasnt workin. That was the cheapest to replace so I started there.
