Okay.....I got one of these off eBay for $100. It's the 130 MPH setup. I've wanted one for a while just to have but am curious as to the "certified speed system" I am hearing about. Can this be bought and added to regular 96-98/99/00 C/K trucks?

I know that chance of me running this is thin but I figured that the harnesses should be fairly similar and wondering if it's just a module that allowd this to work or what....any info would be great. I haven't found anything on this "certified speed system"

    Cameron,

The certified speedometer requires the compatible PCM. As I understand it there is greater resolution to the cluster. The calibration procedure is very unique with those too. When you first install them (into a Police Package Tahoe) the tach and speedometer don't function. Basically, you bring the truck up to a certain speed (I think it's 60mph) getting pace from an external source, drop it to neutral and redline it. This sets a base calibration point. These clusters are electronically very different from the ones in our trucks. Getting it working on a 454 would be even more interresting because they have a lower redline than the 350 Vortec does.

Check out the speedometer circuit board:

I figured on picking up a 120MPH one and fitting the 130 face to it. I noticed the scale of the 130mph one allows a little more sweep. Seems now the supply of the 120's has dried up.

I let this project go a long time ago...

I would be interrested to hear what additionally you find about about them. Good luck!

Damn, Cameron! Sounds like a major pain in the buttocks! I vote you stick with your Caddy cluster. hehe I was looking at one of these on eBay, but heard that they wouldn't work, so then I found the Caddy cluster.

Thanx a ton for that info James. That looks like it'll be a lotta work but may be worth it if I can figure out a way to calibrate it. I guess I need to find a PCM compadible too from what you mentioned. I'm gonna go bug my parts guy and see what I can find out.

I'm glad I got my caddy cluster. I just couldn't pass up a $100 cluster on eBay. I'll have to do some more digging around and see what I can find out.

Jason, I was acutally thinking I could put this in my bro's truck. I'm happy with my 120 in the dually but thought it would be sweet as he!!, and probably easier to install, on a small block vortec motor. Plus, if I found a Police Tahoe PCM it would just drop in with no real mods into his truck.
