you mean the digital display, right? I would kinda like to know also. I've thought about it, but never took it apart and looked at it.

I havent take it apart either but it doesnt look as though it would be possible. I am not real sure what gives it the green color whether it is bulbs or film or both. Take it apart and let us know
That's an expensive part so be very careful when you take it apart.

how about 88 wrap around guages? i would like to change the color in mine.
I think that there is some kind of green plastic that was melted in there from the factory. thought not having any experience, I've heard it's about impossible to get off. you can put 194 leds in the from www.superbrightleds.com, but i don't know how much of a difference you will see.

Arm and a leg. I'd be willing to do it, but I'm at school and dont have the right size socket to get it all apart. I have taken that piece apart before. The buttons are lit up from the back through green pieces of plastic that transmit the lgiht to the buttons. It kind of has a green tint to it. I don't think white LED's would work, but I think maybe blue or red would look ok.
The digital display on the other hand, I think it lit up kind of a light green, and then the green clear plastic piece makes it darker and raises the contrast. It might be possible to change out that piece of green plastic, but it would take some handywork.
oh yeah, the lights bulbs are not 194's, they're much smaller (and more expensive, i had to replace all of them)
Rest in Peace Jason Payne
Man, I guess I will try to find one in a junk yard and see if I can change it around. I just want it to be something besides green. Especially if my gauges are going to be blue.Originally posted by Whifflebat

be carefull with the display it a flouresent display with a color overlay and shatters quite easily (go to a junkyard and have a peek at one) The colored overlay doubles as a sheild to protect the thin glass of the display

How do you plan on making your guages blue?

They use bulbs to light up right?, LEDs will take thier place.Originally posted by Whifflebat

Yeah, that could work, although theres a good chance they'll be kind of dim. I took apart my entire dash last weekend and took a look. The part with the guages is pretty interesting. The guages are sort of "printed" on a black piece of plastic, with all the indicator lights and stuff molded with translucent plastic of the proper color. the guages themselves are molded white, but somehow it shines that greenish color when you put a light behind it. The piece of plastic is then glued to a piece of like 1/4" thick crystal clear plastic, and then the lights are behind that. I want to find a way to get the black plastic off, then somehow clear out the green stuff and put it back on with some clear glue. I might spend some time on it this summer.Originally posted by SyckShyt

looks like I might have to try and find the correct gauges for mine so I can jack up the ones that are in it. The cluster in mine is for a v6 so it uses different resistance for the readings so the temp guage doesnt work worth a flying monkey turd.
