    285/75-16 is 32.8 inches.

Re: How many inches is a 285 tire?

Ok, in a tire size such as 285/75R16; 285 is the width (in millimeters), 75 is the aspect ratio (as a percent), the R means it is a radial tire, and 16 is the rim size (in inches). So 285 divided by 25.5 (thats how many millimeters in an inch) gives us a width of 11.2 inches wide (roughly). To get the height we multiply that by .75 (the aspect ratio) to get 8.4". That is only the height of tire (one side) so multiply that by 2 and add the rim size to get the total height. This way we get 32.8 as well. Now can you figure it out by yourself too.

32.8x11.2 is the calculated conversion. If you want to know for a specific brand and style tire check the munufactures websites they usally have the tire height in inchs listed.

yeah that is the spec'd size. What does one measure on the truck, less than that. But it all depends on the individual tire.

Yeah, some tires have deeper tread.

I don't know the truth to this, but the last time I was at a tire store, the sales rep said that the tire size, is based on the bottom of the tread, so you would have to add 2X the tread depth to get the overall height... Now if that's true or not...
