I found an ex-army k5 blazer locally and was curious as to what the differences between military k5 blazers and the civilian blazers? the one in question still has all the radio brackets attatched to the exterior and the front grill guard and bumper with the usual camo scheme.

    I would imagine beefier axles/drivetrain..

I kinda want to know too, those military k5's are for sale sometimes in the local bargain mart. Would be a great build-up at some point.

Nothing, 1/2 ton drivetrain with ****ty diesel. I hated those things. Now the pickups we had we 14/60/205, so it wasnt bad at all. the K5 blows though, 10/12/203 FTL

That diesel got American troops through desert storm. be it in the K5's or the Hummers. they may not make a ridiculous amount of power, but they can work like sumbitches.

yeah the crappy one before the 6.5L. The humvees had the same ****ty diesel for awhile. NO POWER, now the up armors have a turbo'd 6.5L which still suck balls. I cant wait for Humvees to have a Twin Turbo Dmax/Allison. That would be awesome

Unless you have to have the military look, they are worth less than a civvy version because they have no options. I think they have stiffer rate springs, but not positive.

203s disappeared in '79, 12 bolts in '80, and they didnt start making M1009s until '84.

Werent they made for military 84-88?
The 24 volt consists of a 24v starter, 2 - 12v alt and 2 batteries. Starting system is all that uses 24v. Lights, acc, guages, etc. is same 12v as civvy version.

If you'll read above somebody already pointed that out. If you'll read my post, my statement was more of a question.

It would work fine for a weekend toy. Just keep in mind, it is no tougher than a civvy model and you will be fine.

if you're looking to build a badass swamp runner, you're better off starting elsewhere, as the 6.2 wont be doing very well in the hp department on its best day.
