I am one of those members that has pretty much just hidden in the dark and learned as much as I could from this site. I never had much to contribute before and always wanted to so I figured this was my turn. Here's the "little" project I've been working on for the past few weeks. First a little background, though. I just graduated the Air Force Academy with my BS in Mechanical Engineering and before I left, with the little free time granted to me at the end of the semester, I designed and built some bumpers for my 2001 silverado. I started with taking off my stock bumper and built the bumpers out of cardboard, both front and rear. Unfortunately, I only took pics of the front. From there, I took off the cardboard bumper and took the dimensions from that and drew it up in SolidWorks, a CAD program I became VERY familiar with this year. Using that drawing and the water jet machine I had at my disposal, I cut out all the pieces from a 4' x 8' of 3/16" steel. After that, my buddy and I went to work welding up the bumpers and making mounts so that they could be bolted to my frame. I am very happy with how it has all turned out so far. All I have left to do now is buy my winch and fab up the mounting system for that as well as grind down all they welds before taking them into get Line-X put on. I dont have a good picture right now of how they look 90% on my truck but I'll be sure to get one tomorrow for you guys. I'll stop talking now and let the pictures take care of the rest. Enjoy!

Some of the pictures are a little out of order but you get the idea. More pictures to come as I finish up this build!

Yea, the HAZARD is facing the outside. Here's some pics of it as they are currently. I've got a LOT of grinding ahead of me...
And this is the RBP rear bumper I modeled mine after:

You should try turning up the heat, cleaning your metal and moving a little slower. A little more consistancy would help, but it comes with hot metal glue trigger time.
Final product looks well thought out. If you put some shackles in those pull points, put some anti-sieze on the threads. Nothing sucks more than not being able to pull a shackle off when you need to because it's seized up.

That's gonna look killer, I agree with the shackle idea.
