Louisiana People: Levee Question?

Ok so some friends of mine swear up and down that the river side of the Levee is fair game to go ride on. But I just get this gut feeling that its got to be illegal. I see the ponchatrain levee distric signs, and they mention "on the crown" "On the Levee" but nothing about the flat land between the levee and the river.

I do know that some of the land is private, and is bordered with fences, and posted signs, but the land that they go out on is niether fenced or "posted".

The one time that I went over there, there were several trail looking roads, and even a group of people boiling crawfish. So it seems as if it gets used alot, now whether its legal or illegal use, Im not sure.

When I was younger we used to ride around alot in a friend of ours GMC Z71. However, he always stayed away from the levees as he has gotten unwanted attention before on them. Especially when he was driving a single cab Z71 with big tires on stock wheels.

That was down near Plaquemine and Bayou Sorrel mostly. Id probably steer clear of them anywheres, IMO.
