Im starting on my stroker mission tomarrow (Friday) For those of you reading that dont know my story I have a 95 Tahoe 4x4, Im yarding the 350, 4l60e, the 10 bolt and all the stupid computer crap. In favor of a nice orange 383, Th350, 14 bolt ff, Speed Demon 750cfm carb, D.U.I. HEI distribuator.....blah blah, blah blah

Anyways theres a little background on whats going on. My question for you guys is what problems are going to be lurking for me without my engine computer in? I know the speedo has its own brain, but will it have power and stuff without the main ECU?
And my ignition, Will it have turn key power? Will my alternator work? Is my ABS going to freak on me and leave me searching for a bottomless pedal? Well you see where im going with this. Please leave any comment you can think of, but please if it is your opionion and not a fact that has been proven to you please state that in your comment just so I know. Thanks alot guys!!!

Hook up as much stuff as you can to the stock wiring harness. Basically, the only thing you're changing is the fuel injection. I'm not sure why you're ditching the 4L60E.....theres plenty of people that make some great built units and you can actually drive on the freeway as well. But still hook up all other possible connections i.e.- MAP sensor, coolant sensor, ignition (get an MSD box if you think you need one), brakes, knock sensor, power steering, A.C., oil pressure sensor, etc.

Theres no reason to ditch the whole entire computer! It's a benefit even when doing performance builds. Even the TBI in your truck can be modded for a stroker, just call Fastchip (who did my custom tune, and perform custom TBI tunes all day long) and tell them what you're doing. If you ditch the computer totally, and go to a carb, drivability will suffer. I could have done the same thing, but even with my crappy fuel injection I was able to make it work and benefit from all the conveniences of EFI as well.

First off I would like to keep the OD but spending $900.00 for a controller and a good $1k to get the 4l60e to take a 460 ft/pd moter isnt justifiable right this minute, I have a brand new BUILT th350 collecting dust. with 4.10s and 36s ill only be turning 2200 at 60 mph, I have a M3 for tearing up the highway, dont need to do 80 on the freeway in the truck. The only time I really drive it on the freeway is when im towing my sprint car from Edmonds to Skaget raceway. One day a week, 70 miles each way...and even if I had the OD tranny still in it i would still wouldnt be in OD anyways. As far as the rest of the sensors and stuff, im not really even sure how many of those are on my new moter and ive never heard of power steering being comp controlled... Is it? I couldnt say yes or no but would guess no. I could maybee see the AC just cause there is a electric button that powers on something that in turn "turns" up the engine to compensate for the draw that the compressor is putting on the engine. Also I want something that I can wrench on out in in the woods as well as in my driveway. All the wires and cades and crap drive me loopy. Thanks for the input though man!!! I really do appriciate it, I hope I dont sound like a di*k cause im really not meaning to, but ive made up my mind on the configuration of my truck, im just looking for problems I might encounter.

Trade your 4L60E for the non E or 700R4 built for the stroker, you'll need to build the 350 anyways for the stroker.

    Edit>>>>
Sorry I didn't see that you already had a built 350, and you already know what you want. But, you don't have to rule out a 4 auto.

The 4L60 or 700R4 has a much lower 1st gear than the 350, even if you don't need the overdrive. No electronics, a TV cable from tranny to accel linkage. Plenty of rodder kits available or from an LG4(H)/L69(G)/LM1(6) Caprice/Firebird/Camaro, some late 80's trucks with 700R4

The computer stuff isnt all that complicated. I rebuilt my 97 (which is OBDII) in my garage. In my experience the comp. has actually helped me out in diagnoses and smooth running. Yet if you get rid of everything, I'm not sure if your speedo will even work, unless the TH350 has a speedo sensor plug. For my stroker, Ijust put in a shift kit and Vigillante 2800 converter. I don't think a stand alone controller is needed for the 4L60E. Good luck with your project. If you keep it the way you want to then I think you'll have to run manual gauges.....the stock ones which operate off the comp. wont work.

The tuning could be an issue, but at the same time I would be leary of what some "dyno guy" said as well. Not everybody that runs a dyno is a tuning expert. Just as not every guy that works at Autozone knows that much abuot cars. 40-50 extra rwhp is quite a bit, I would have to know what your setup is to know if you're in the right ballpark of power and torque. Whats your setup? Trans, converter, cam, etc.? And what did you put down? I would call Holley and ask them what the average power people are making with your setup. Are you using the stock tune, or a Holley tune? If you are still using the stock tune, then there is ALOT of power to be gianed, and YES Fastchip will benefit you tremendously. They did an awesome job with my combo (which is quite obscure being a 96-99 setup) and can do the same for you. I would bet that if you are running the stock tune, it'll feel like a whole new vehicle.

Yes there is a pressure sensor in the power steering pump. Not sure if that can be byassed. Also the guages will have to be either replaced or rewired and you will need new electronic sensors in the engine, which will defeat your wanting to get rind of wires and sensors. There are a few companies making manual valve body kits for the 4L60E, I would look into that well before I thought about putting a "built" 350 behind a 383. Yes the altenator will work. I'm not sure about the ignition switch, it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't work without the ECU. ABS has it's own computer but I wouldn't count on that working right either.
