I'm about to install an air to fuel ratio guage the question is can i use the factory o2 senor by taping into it or do i need another sensor?
Are you installing a wide band? Or just a regular A/F gauge?

just regular one
Eww, not sure than. I know the wideband uses a new sensor. I could or swore I heard someone running theirs off the MAF wires. Did you do a search?

no luck
what mods do you have to warrant needing a a/f gauge?
If it were me I would install a seperate upstream 02 and leave the factory stuff alone to prevent any problems.

You can tap the stock one but running a new one is best. Do you have a blower or running nitrous to warrant using it or are you doing it just to do it?

this is all for future mods,(supercharger, or turbo) that way i way these two already in, then i can do the rest later
Not a bad idea in that case.
If I remember right don't you have family in the DFW area? Theres a guy here in DFW who puts turbos in the back of Fbodys (in place of the muffler) and he also does GM trucks...awsome system makes very good power reliably. Very clean installs also. I think for everything (turbo, install, reprogram, etc etc) its like 4-5 grand. Ive got a buddy w/ this set up on an avalance and itll spin the 22" giovannas like no other.
I just put one in the 98 truck, I talked to Autometer alot, I used one of there gauges & spdt switch using the forward stock O2 sensors & can read both banks, not at the same time but one or the other & I have the ability to turn the gauge off also. You will see it bounces alot. Hoping to get my hands on a decent WB soon & compare the results. Right now the gauge says it is on the rich side of stoich most of the time, but does lean out under a light steady cruise. Which is exactly what the spark plugs indicated from seperate reads.

just as a point of reference, dont put too much stock in one using a factory o2 sensor. it will basically just look cool. hate to see a motor melted because "it was still kinda green on the guage"
its extra useless without a wideband at WOT

i figured if i start now and slowly get everything ready it will be less of a pain in the ass later
probobly be more of one if you go turbo. anyway, with f-bodies you tap into the purple line in the 02 sensor. should be the same on trucksOriginally Posted by jedgemon
