I have a 99' obs z71 with a k&n gen II kit, bored throttle body, Gibson shorty headers, and full magnaflow exhaust. I want to now tune the computer and I have seen alot of options out there. I would like to have a handheld tuner but I have been told they arn't that good. Is this true?
What do I need for good power, good driveablity, and on like 87 or 89oct.?

nelson or westers are the most popular mail order tunes but a little pricy imo.Wait till the end of the week and there may be one other option for about 75% less

whos been telling you that they arent any good? have you tried one, yet?
there are many that have great results with a tuner, some have not. its all
expectations of what you might gain from tuning. be it mail-order tune or from
    a hand-held.
if your expecting the fromt wheels to pop off the ground on accelleration it aint gunna
happen, but if you are looking for a relative improvement hand helds are fine.
if you are the horsepower junkie and dont want to leave anything on the table
a custom tune is the way, but it will come with some risk and issues.
and sometimes the custom tune isnt much more that what some hand-helds
give you. ive found some "tuners" captured a hand-held tune embellished
some torque management features and now its "their" tune.... beware.
see wkdspd for some features for a hand-held.
