Okay, while I'm saving up for the new gear install I'm going to go ahead and put in an auxiliary tranny cooler. A big assed one. Anyway, I know they're universal fit, so the install instructions won't be great. I can do pretty basic mods as long as I have decent instructions. Already searched for some, couldn't find any. Can anybody help me out with a link, or at least tell me what I need to know to install this? Hell, I don't even know which hose is which. One of them is called a "return", right?

I was also thinking about this as well and would like to know more. I know you can get a large cooler from www.summitracing.com or somewhere like that universal for under 50 bucks, or even a local auto parts store, so Bump.

    Re: Tranny cooler question...

    finally, work is useful!

transmission fluid always goes from top to bottom to minimize pressure drop.

so the Trans to TOC (trans oil cooler) is on top and the TOC to trans is on lower.

now if you dont have a crossflow radiator, you're skrewed and need to find a better way which i'm too lazy to think of right now. My truck is cross flow so you are fine

you want the fluid to go in this order

trans, stock TOC, (in radiator cap), AUX toc, Trans

and remember, top to bottom (or if it flows sideways, its fine too, just dont oppose gravity)

I bought one at Pep Boys for about $40 -- a pretty big one. I can see where the hoses come in and out of the radiator, but I can't see or figure out where they go into the tranny!

Thanks, yes, I realize it goes into the tranny, but I can't find where. I can't figure out where it is when I look from underneath. Could you (or anyone) post a pic showing what the feed/return hoses look like going into the tranny?

I don't have a photo of the cooler, it's a Hayden. Seems to be okay; after all, these things are just a pipe with some of that radiator-looking stuff on it, right?

    Re: Tranny cooler question...

Why do you need the ones going to the tranny? It mounts in front of the radiator. The trans lines hook up on the passenger side of the radiator. This is where you will splice in the cooler. There are 2 metal lines that screw in one near the top one near the bottom.

    Oh!!!!

So I don't have to mess with hooking directly to the tranny -- I can just hook it from radiator --> cooler --> return hose. Ahhh, genius!

By the way, which hose is the return, top or bottom?
