5.7 Vortec balancer

    Does anyone know if the 5.7 Vortec are internally balanced or external? I have a fluid balancer that is neutral balance and I am thinking of using it.

    Pretty sure all SB's with the exception of the 400 are internal balance.

    Late model 1 piece rear main seal engines are all external balanced I believe.

    as long as we aren't talkin newer than say 1996 (cuz I wouldn't be sure on these new motors - 5.3 -6.0 etc...) she should be internally balanced- externally balanced ones- 400, 327, 283 etc... all have "notches" machined out of the harmonic balancer and
    flywheel or flexplate... you oughtta be good to go.

    Gen 1 small blocks with one-piece rear main seal are no longer "exactly" internally balanced as the early small blocks were. The newer (one-piece seal) engines have a weight spot welded on the flexplate to compensate for the unbalance at the REAR of the crank required for the one-piece seal.
    HOWEVER, the front of the motor and the damper are neutral balance, so yes, you CAN use the neutral balance damper.
