    hey guys

after i get my intake bolted on this week, im thinkin of heading down to capitol raceway in crofton, MD to test the rig out...

its a 5.3L fitted with a crane cams programmer, exhaust cutout, and soon this SLP intake, the truck is an ext. cab. longbed, and i think it weighs in at about 6200 pounds...for weight reduction im gonna take off the tailgate and drop the spare, im aiming to have about a 1/4 tank of gas...this is gonna be my first time at the track with this truck so im not expecting my first run to be all that great

just wanted to hear you guys' opinions, and ill chime in with my timeslip hopefully next weekend. im aiming at hopefully a 15.5 or better

    thanks
    tommy

There is no way your hitting 15's at 6000+ pounds your driving a brick on wheels, and with just a tuner and a cut out your probably makin no more than 25-50 hp over stock, I say vest best is mid to high 16's

Re: What do you guys think i would run?

High 16's to 17's at 82 mph is my guess, let us know what you run.

the 454 SS truck with 255 hp run mid 15's at 85 mph.
My 1997 Vortec 350 with 255 hp 330 lb/ft rana 15.9 stock with 3.08's going thryu the traps at 5500 rpm in 2nd gear. Thats at 4000 lbs.
The 1996 Dodge Ram 360 Pace trucks run a high 15 low 16 depending if it has the Mopar hot chip and factory installed headers, if it does, my friends ahas squeaked out a 15.7.
    I have seen a 1st year 2nd gen blown Lightning run a 14.1 at 99.
    Dodge Dakota RT 360 2wd mid 15's.
RCSB hemi 2wd Ram with 3.92 sure grip low 15's
RCSB 5.3L GMC/Chev 2wd depending on gears and years 15.5-14.6 bone stock

You have over 2000 lbs over my truck plus you are 4wd. Its the weight that is killing you.
If you have any wheelspin run it in 4 hi, there is a guy on another forum who ran a 16.9 in 4hi, then in 4lo he ran a 16.3. Try a 4lo run also, he ended shifting into OD in 4 lo to get thru the traps in the 1/4.

I am not sure if the PCM will let you do a full pass in 4lo, I cant remeber if this guy had a custon PCM flash or not. You wont hurt anything, the PCM wont let you do anything that wil hurt the truck.

Let us know what you run.

runthe highest octane you can find and you are doing the correct thing by having the lowest amout of fuel you can while racing(100 lbs=10 hp, 1000 lbs=100 hp.
Inflate the front tires to 50 psi at the drags remeber to readjust before you drive home, if you plan on running 4wd runs, infalte the rears as well to 50 psi

Shallowstage, roll into the final beam JUST far enough to stage teh truck(this gives you a couple inches of truck movement before you start the timers).
When the 2nd last yellow goes out and before the last yellow light shines is when I jam the throttle wide open. Dont be gentle, stomp the throttle open, low et's are dependent on hard launches. It will help if you get rid of GM's torque management, which will be in effect before and during every shift and at launch. try to cool teh engine in between runs, hot lapping or running run after run with no cooldown will hurt ET usually.

Try some runs with your cut out open and closed.

Good luck man, let us know your time and MPH with you 60 ft times as well, Ilove drag racing.

    peace

Re: What do you guys think i would run?

hey thanks for the staging advice man ill definitely do that, my truck is a 4x2 though and ill run both with the cutout closed and open...i think i actually get more torque with it closed

and about the hot lapping, i dont have to worry about that because there's always 50+ other cars/trucks that test and tune on friday nights lol
