    Hey stroker,

A stock 700r4 wont hold up to too much grunt, but they CAN be built. As a matter of fact, I just pulled mine out of my truck yesterday to be sent to my trans guy who does all the transmissions for mine and my friend's hotrod's around here. There's a car I helped build that runs around with with a 436 small block that makes 608 hp at the flywheel and 590 ft lbs of torque, and he's running a 700r4 with coan convertor and such. Another with a 480 hp 383 stroker with a 700r4. Planetaries are usually the first to go, and the 3rd gear clutches, but Raybestos makes a great clutch pack for these transmissions that seems to hold up nicely. How much horsepower/torque are you making? I'll beable to help you a little bit more with some more info.

i'd say somewhere between 300-350 FWHP, based only on prior experiences. but with a mild rebuild, shift kit, servo, id say 400

On a stock 700R4, about 300-350fwhp. However, with some harden shafts, good set of planetaries and clutches/bands; it could easily handle 500hp.

You also have to consider the wieght of the truck. It may live fine in a car but put the same engine and trans in a heavy truck and it may not last.

The stock hp rating is 300 hp and 370 lb/ft of torque. there are different ways of rating transmissions.

For ablower on that 383 I would be looking at a 4l80e or 4l85e transmission swap. If you dont want to get the trans controller for the 80 or 85e, just get a full manual shfit kit for it and use a manual lockup switch.
Parish was running in the 10's with a stock 4l80e with a shift kit.

Originally he was only running a stock 80e with a shift kit, he was running top 10's then. After he broke that trans, he went with a full level 5 build with a cryo shaft and then he ran bottom tens as his setup improved.

700 or 800 hp thru an 80e with a shift kit is pretty decent.
he has dynoed over 1000hp and 1100 lb/ft of torque at 22 psi, but he raced on 18 psi of boost and ran a 10.0?? at 137mph, not 100% sure on the mph. He backs off teh boost a bit when racing. He tried to run a 9 at Dragweek according to the magazine. I wonder what he will run with his twin turbo setup??
his 4wd launches are just wild, its all overthe place. That truck is the ultimate sleeper. You wouldnt think low tens from looking at it thats for sure. i'm envious.

Hey YENKO, here is Parish's truck site, lotsa great info here. http://www.neufamily.org/truck.html Take care man.

Yea, it was 10.08 at 136. I don't know, he was talking about tubbing it and converting it to 2wd, twin turbo, or just making it a high 10's and getting a colorado with a 408 so, who knows. But I hope he does go for the 9's though. Take it easy Pauly.
