if they parts aren't broke why do you want to fix them, those motors go for way more miles than 85k.

As far as performance you can get pretty well set up with $2000, cam, heads or head work, intake manifold, custom tuned, etc

Might want to do a water pump just due to the age. My truck turned 100k miles last week and I'm thinking of that and a new serpentine belt just in case. It's easier to do when it's planned vs. on the side of the road at night.

From what I've seen, the timing chain is pretty much a "lifetime" part, or at least like 25+ years.

If your cooling fan clutch is stock, you may want to replace it just to make sure it's working like it should.

Otherwise it looks like you've got the bolt-on's covered!

I agree with the above. Take $300 and have all the fluids changed and put the rest in the bank.

    I recommend:
    Oil filter
    5 qts of oil
    Air filter
Plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor button.

If you still want to spend the money on the truck, replace shocks and brakes or anything else that could use maintenance.

Of course you could take the motor out and rebuild it, but like has been stated, you are just breaking it in good at 85k. Timing chains on these motors will stretch with mileage, but it would take many many more miles before you have a problem because of the timing chain.
