    383 Stroker Setup Questions

I own a 1988 Chevy K1500 truck that came with a 5.0L engine. I have recently had the exterior re-worked and am now considering an engine upgrade. The existing engine has a few minor problems anyway.

I have spent a few weeks looking through a bunch of posts on this site and found a lot of info on the subject. What I am hoping to find out is what set-ups have users on this site had success with.

I wish to put a 383 engine in my truck but am struggling with the intake selection - I think the TBI setup would be best (economically and likelyhood of success).

So what I plan on doing is going with a 383 block, TBI intake (likely an increased CFM configuration), and an upgradded fuel pump to handle the increased fuel demand. I will also need a ECM upgrade.

So what I am hoping to hear opinions on is - suggestions with TBI intake selection, heads (vortec or non vortec), fuel injector size (I know about the sizing calculations but any brand or model numbers would be appreciated) , ECM selection. Thanks for reading and I look forward to suggestions.

With the heads...go vortec with the vortec TBI manifold. The look for cop car injectors with adjustable fuel pressure regulator. For a cam, it will depend on if you are burning your own chips, getting a brand name, or custom chip. If you are burning your own or getting a custom chip then 212/218 would be a nice cam for torque and hp.

if you get aftermarket heads besides vortec, you can use the edelbrock tbi performer. bore out the intake holes to fit the 454 tbi. i will have one for sale in a couple months when i drop my 383 in. i went with the holley stealth ram. on it and have the edel on my 350.

look into badburban's set up he had at one time. that's another example.

or you can hit up HaulinA$$ on this forum. he can mod your stock computer to run a 4bbl holley tbi, or tpi fuel injection. take his advise. as i get closer to finishing mine, i'm glad i did. but get him a week, i talked to him today. he just got out of surgery and needs some recoup time.

He had an operation of some sort and will be out for a little while. I had sent him a PM a week or so ago and I got a reply a couple days ago from him and he said he was at the hospital still.
