the Banks stuff is expensive, but damn, look at the quality of the headers, you arent going to find that quality in a cheaper header I 100% guarentee it.
Those headers are designed for motorhomes which get loaded down more than most of ourtrucks do. In a truck they would last forever.

Their stuff seems to be high quality. They also claim that their HP gains are true and accurate for all users.

I am a firm believer in the Bank's Power Pack. It is a quality product and their headers are best in that no sealers or gaskets are used in their installation. Too bad Bank's do not make a kit for your rig. Did you check with them about just getting the headers for your truck. The System really woke my old 92 454 up. Next step will be the addition of a new mild cam.

Thier gas stuff may be ok, but thier diesel products SUCK. Trust me, I spent all kinds of money with Banks(technicooler, high ram intake,Banks PDA w/ 6 gun), only to have thier 6 gun tuner burn a hole in 2 pistons on my 04 Cummins. They wouldn`t give any support, no one there had an answer as to why it happened, and it finally got to the point they wouldn`t even return phone calls. They may have quailty "looking" stuff, but thier customer support sucks. Cruise around any of the notable diesel sites, such as www.dieseltruckresource.com or www.turbodieselregister.com and search for Banks, you`ll see how many ppl in the diesel community really dislike thier products.

My truck is a 98 454 k2500. The banks system is posted below for the 96-00 454 vortec. They DO make it for the gas 454. It is a great system.

    Re: 1997 454 performance parts

So if 70HP/85LB-Ft torque realistic from headers and exhaust? Add that to my PCM tune from Jesse, that is probably 100hp improvement......

Yes I would say that is accurate. I am getting ready to put a cam in mine and have a tune put on from jesse so I can let you know how it goes.

    Re: 1997 454 performance parts

I did the tune from Jesse and that is it, and it is fantastic in power now.

How loud is the exhaust from Banks? Honestly I am not that interested in doing headers, the rest of the pipe is pretty decent, and just to a muffler swap, maybe dual tailpipes on the one side to keep it simple.

Fuel Economy is key for me...

How much did you sink into your 454 with the Banks stuff?
With the gains, would you do it again?

    Re: 1997 454 performance parts

ok what would you do about the headers if you already have an exhaust system.... i would really love to have the banks headers....but i have no idea how to get just the headers....

Hey BanksPowered98 what cam have you been looking at to put in ur 454.....i have been looking around at them and the one i found that sounds ok for my app. is made by Comp cams and specs are 212/218 with .510 it says its good for Very good low RPM torque. Great for towing applications, works with stock fuel injection. so i was just wondering.

    Re: 1997 454 performance parts

What are factory 454 L29 cam specs? 202-206 or something like that? Sheesh, a cam like that 212/218, Banks exhaust and Jesse tune would make the 454 an absolute animal.... Hemi eating animal.... Heck, does that already when a trailer is hooked up....

    Re: 1997 454 performance parts

yea you hook a trailer on both....and i would eat one cuz for one thing i have a 5 speed...lol....but i'm not a fan of the hemi in a 3/4 ton....maybe a good motor for a half ton but thats about it....you just cant match a big block for pulling. me two of my best friends, my dad one of their dads, and my little bro are headed about 6 hours to haul wood in the mornin....we have a 94 cummins 12 valve 3/4 ton...an '01 1 ton cummins and an 05 1 ton chevy 8.1L with....6 cords each on the 1 tons and 4 on the 3/4 ton...(lighter duty trailer) but believe it or not the 8.1 does not do that bad of a job...but not like a cummins....but i have liked the way the big block make power...its like a cross between a diesel and a small block...thats one reason i want a cam...i would like to make more power with my 7.4L and still haul what any other 3/4 ton can...my only problem is i dont have the cash to try one thing and then throw it down if i dont like it and try something else...

could anyone tell me what kind of power this cam would give my motor without changing ANYTHING but the cam....and/or would i need to change anything to run a/this cam...

also my wait4me tune will be here next week sometime and i will tell you 454 lovers whats the verdict is...

    Re: 1997 454 performance parts

I love the Banks stuff. They have never gave me any problems and seem to work with and help me if I ever need anything. I would definately do it the same way. The exhaust is actually fairly quiet. The only thing I did different was when I installed the kit, I deleted the converters and put a 5in tip on instead of their 4in. Its pretty quiet on the inside. I am looking at the crane powermax cam. It seems like a pretty decent cam as far as the lift goes. Not too much, but enough to help. I talked to crane and banks and they both agreed it should net a considerable difference. I will post the specs of it when I get home. I have it wrote down. When they told me the gain they recieved from the exhaust I thought they were kidding, but man were they right! I would definately say the 70-80 hp and lb/tq is right on.

The cam that I am thinking about going to is right here in the following link..

I did find that the 99 Motorhome chassis had the L29 454 and had the coil on plug igntion like the L18 496/8.1L and the LS1 style V8's. Different PCM and not OBD2 compliant.... But the parts are there!!!
