TBI is 210 hp and 300 torque. Vortec is 255 hp and seems like 330 or 340 torque.

what all would be necessary to do the 330hp or even 350hp GMPP 350 swap. Would it just require a tune or what would be needed?

For a TBI engine, it would require bigger injectors, ultimate TBI mods or 454ss throttle body, fuel pressure regulator, tune, etc.

For the vortec engine, a tune. The injectors in that thing can support about 400hp.

    Re: 1990's 350 hp

damn 400 thats pretty good i would like to get that some day but for now i was just wanting something to get a little better than my 3/4 ton 454 and have a little get up and go. I was looking at the swap because a buddy of mine just got an RST and it would be better for me to swap a motor than to do a build to try to keep up with him with a virtually stock obs 350. Thats what i was looking at the GMPP 350hp 350 for.

You would have to install 4 oxygen sensors, 2 before the cats, 2 after, then install many other solenoids, sensors, and relays.

Actually the Vortecs poppet design sucks. The TBI setup has more potential to it. The vortec intake/injector setup is non-upgradeable. There is very little aftermarket for it. The TBI market is better established than the vortec. I already have a 350 vortec with the production LT4 cam in it. It is in my Express. The poppet setup is a nightmare waiting to happen. I had to replace the original poppet spider rail with the GM MFI conversion. That smoothed things out, but it is already at the ragged edge of running out of fuel. The poppets run at 60 PSI, but are rated at 19 lbs/hr at 43.5 psi. They are 24 lbs/hr at 60 psi and 330 HP is about all that you can get out of the system without a supercharger or additional injectors. The other problem is all of that garbage gets in the way of air/flow. The only intake that is available for upgraded EXTERNAL injectors is the Mercury Marine piece. It lacks and EGR valve. The Vortec TBI setup has atleast a chance to be legal.

    Re: 1990's 350 hp

I have several people pushing the stock vortec system to 400hp but it that was 330rwhp, I would agree then b/c that's what I have read and know. 400 flywheel hp is 330rwhp.

the 350HO is sinmply a Vortec engine with its roller cam removed and a slightly agressive flattappet cam installed Yuck.

The 350HO is rated at 330 gross hp while the stock Vortec 350 is rated at 255 NET hp. The 255 net hp converts to about 310hp. Dont think that by installing a 350HO into a 1996-99 truck taht it will perform better, it wont and it will be less effecient.
People pay good money to install roller cams and lifters. Stick with teh L31 Vortec 350.

Just drop in a Vortec 383E. Its emissions legal in some states and is a nice drop in replacement for any tired Vortec 305 or 350. For best results, add LT headers, custom cat forward exhaust and a nice catback exhaust. PCM tuning is a must for best power, but the Vortec 383E will run on teh stock PCM tune.
Here is teh 383 I am talking about. COmes with new waterpump, distributer, wires, plugs etc.
