I have a 97 chevy with the 5.7L 350 Vortec and i want to put some fastburn heads on and I was wondering what kind of things I would need to to do besides just taking off the old ones and putting the new ones on? I am also going to get the aluminum vortec intake manifold that you are suppose to use with them. Any information that you guys might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

took a look at the heads and they say their recommended for all out racing.

with 210cc intake runners you will not have very much low end torque the power will come in at higher rpms

try the 170cc e-tec's their the same as the vortec's but flow 20% more on the exhaust port
and can handle up to .575 lift and make power up to 6k from what i've heard here our trucks won't rev past 5800 rpm with the stock pcm so why would you want a head that will rev to 6500+

The GM fast burn heads also have D shaped exhaust ports.

the heads are edelbrock from jegs you can use the stock intake

bought the cam with the matching fast flash tuner it reprograms the pcm to match the cam!

    http://fuelairspark.com/Products/det...ammer/over.asp

comp cams xr258hr 258 in /264 ex adv.

    206/212 @.05
valve lift is .480 in/.488 ex with 1.5 rockers
    but i'm using 1.52 so it's .485 in/ .493 ex

    http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...50168_-1_10187

some one ran this for me on a DD2k
    481 ft-lbs @ 3000rpm
    391 hp @ 5000 rpm
Nearly flat torque curve from 2000 to 4000 when it drops off.
You could be looking at 325hp/400ft-lbs at the wheels with a good tune.

Cam Tuner TMTechnology What really makes FAST-FLASH TMPower Programmers unique is the exclusive Cam TunerTMtechnology.Unlike conventional programmers that are designed to only work with stock or bolt-on engine modifications,FAST-FLASH TMallows you to tailor engine tuning to your performance camshaft.Regardless of the FAST-FLASH TMmode you select (performance, towing or economy) the exclusive Cam Tuner TMfunction will automatically optimize all engine parameters to get the most out of your COMP CamsŪ camshaft.

    Cam B 210-220

    Cam C 220-230

are you planning on going with a carb or switching your stock efi to an aftermarket efi system ?

there's the ram jet setup from gmpp
    http://www.tpiparts.net/inc/sdetail/3128

holly has an efi set up also but you can not use the stock injectors or tb
    http://www.holley.com/HolleyNews/article.asp?ID=34

the stock intake with the gm mpfi is said to support 440 hp at the crank but you will need an external fuel pressure regulator and do away with the internal one

    don't see why not ?

don't go to high of compression ratio i think standard vortec 350 piston is -12cc 4" bore for a cr of 9.4-1 cr with 64cc heads

i'm using kb forged in my 383 -18cc dished about 9.8-1 cr

    why standard ?
you will have to go .030 over if your rebuilding

but don't order any parts until you have all the machining done!!!

also forgot but scoggin dickie has a set of 64cc vortec heads that are modified for a .550 lift

these will be the cheapest heads for your truck
    $650 bucks

    Re: Aluminum fastburn vortec heads?

You could also go with the GMPP Bowtie Vortec Smallport heads with 185cc intake ports and normal exhaust ports. OR get the 215 cc intake port GMPP Largeport Bowtie Vortec heads. The Largeports have a D shaped exhaust port.

1 3/4" primary tube headers will fit over the D shaped ports.

the stock L31 Vortec 350 intake manifold will work with any raised runner GEn 1E Vortec head. The stock Vortec 350 truck intake has an aluminum lower intake and plastic upper intake.

Here is some info pulled from 1 of my posts.

    GMPP Vortec heads http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/3129...nder-Heads.htm

12558060 Cast Iron L31 Vortec SB Chevrolet Cylinder Heads Assembled $269.75
25534351 SB Chevrolet Bare Small Port Vortec Bow-Tie Cylinder Head $299.95
25534371 SB Chevrolet Bare Large Port Vortec Bow-Tie Cylinder Head $328.95
25534421 SB Chevrolet Complete Small Port Vortec Bow-Tie Cylinder Head $489.95
25534431 SB Chevrolet Complete Large Port Vortec Bow-Tie Cylinder Head $499.95
12464298 Fast Burn SB Chevrolet Aluminum Cylinder Head $609.95

    the edelbrock ETECS http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/1125...eads.htmE60979

E-Tec 170cc SB Chevy Assembled Cylinder Head $529.95
    E60959 E-Tec 170cc SB Chevy Bare Cylinder Head $442.99
    E60989 E-Tec 200cc SB Chevy Assembled Cylinder Head $559.95
    E60969 E-Tec 200cc SB Chevy Bare Cylinder Head $458.99

The 210cc GMPP Fastburn heads on a 350 shortblock with GM Hotcam 218/228 duration at 0.050" makes 430 hp at 6000 rpm and 430 lb/ft of torque. GM made 430 copies of this engine, its called the ZZ430. GM also installs teh Fastburn heads on teh ZZ383 that makes 425 hp and 460 lb/ft of torque.

The 1996-2000 Vortec 305/350/454 PCM's cannot be tuned to rev over 5800-5900 rpm.

Your `97 5.7 motor should have factory vortec heads on it already...why spend big money on another set of heads when you can have yours redone and upgraded at a fraction of the cost??
