Not in an 05. Go with a 6.0.

in an 05 go with the 5.3 or 6.0 all depends on how you wanna use it on which motor to swap in

Are you wanting the easiest? Or do you really just want the flexibility of a 350. Pracically every part of that motor has something you can do with it, more options than almost any other motor. Yeah, a 6.0 is a little bigger, but parts for it can't be had at the local oreily's as quickly when something goes wrong.

In the OBS trucks a 5.7 is an easy swap, in an 05 a 5.3 or 6.0 is a much easier swap than a 5.7. Too bad you sold that 6.0 already.

i might be better off selling this truck. what would a 05 4x4 with 4.3 5spd and 84k be worth?

technically it's easiest to go with the vortec 350 swap. However odd to go backwards a few years in engine. The Vortec 350 has a similar fuel injection as the new 4.3L. The 4.3L motor mounts will work with a vortec 350 unlike a LS based block. The 4.3L fuel lines will bolt right onto the Vortec 350 and all the 4.3L accesories will bolt to a Vortec 350... you will need to wire in 4 extra wires for the two more fuel injectors plus a comp tune.

Hell I even think the 350 exhaust manifolds dump in the same place as new 4.3L so you can use your existing Y-pipe. ( I think, I could be way wrong)

You made some good points there man! They put Vortec 350's in NBS trucks in Mexico as well so the 350 may be easier after all.

    Re: 2005 4.3

Most people are forgetting, or perhaps don't realize, that the 4.3 that is still being used today is a Gen1 engine, not a Gen3. As mentioned, it uses alot of components that are far more compatible with the 5.7 then they would be with a 4.8/5.3/6.0 engine.

If you go with an ls based motor, put a 6.0 in!!! 5.3 is a waist for an engine swap unless you can get it for next to nothing.

    Re: 2005 4.3

I've been thinking about this 97-98-99 Vortec 350 swap. In stock form the 350 wouldn't be worth the swap. I think they were rated at 250Hp & 260 ft/lbs-tq. Wich is only 50 more HP & 40 more TQ than the newest 4.3L... However there is a 350horse GM crate vortec 350. Or even stroker kits to 383, A stroker with a cam, full length headers & exhaust with that comp tune you'd have to do anyway. I could picture a 350-400 horse small block. Wich is the limits for the poppet valve fuel injection anyways. And it will sound a hell of alot better going down the road too

    Hmm... very doable

    a late model L31 produced 255 HP / 330 TQ.

If you wanted to be nice and clean, get a HT383E crate motor. All you will need then is a intake manifold and injector setup(can be found for cheap these days), some minor wiring(or better yet just go with a painless wire kit), and a reflashed computer.

    Re: 2005 4.3

I'd like the add another tick mark in favor of the 4.3L to 350E swap

I'm here at the auto parts store that I manage, and I have up on my split screen in the cataloging of the computer system a 2004 Silverado 4.3L and a 1998 Chevy 1500 5.7L

    the ignition controle module
    crank position sensor
    magnetic pick-up/cam position sensor
    throttle position sensor
    IAC motor
    coolant temp sensor

...Are all the same exact part number between both years & engines. The only different sensor between the two is the knock sensor.
