The performance will be night and day. I am not sure about he speedometer, but there are hundreds of guys on here who I am sure will answer that soon.

If I changed the gears in my 89 c1500 from 2.73 to 3.42 how would the speedometer act?My truck is 305/400thm and I think changing the ratio would be a big help in getting more performance.

Your speedometer will read fast when you put lower gears in. You'll just need to get it recalibrated. Putting 2.73's in anything definitely wasn't one of GM's better ideas.

Yeah im sure its pretty far off. I would definitely have your speedo recalibrated. Depending on your driving location, more city or highway, you might see better MPG.
