I understand just enough about all this stuff to get really confused.
kinda like that but instead of using a TBI TB, it uses the stock TB and accomodates all of the factory sensors, etc. and cheaper. i think it can be done and sold for 500-800. my original estimate may have been a little hopeful.

Lets get this done guys. Id be in the market for it with medium injector size for my truck to make it run smoother and maybe pickup the takeoff.

If some company out there ends up making a good bolt on MPFI setup for the L31 they'd have a decent monopoly going on. no competition other than like the Marine, and other custom manifolds, but the desire for those would be virtually nothing. especially if the bolt on manifold was well made and not a half assed setup.

also to update my earlier post in this thread, I've got my MPFI manifold on, been running it for the past 3 weeks, retaining all the stock emissions stuff, running regular injectors, and its doing great. the intake wouldn't be too incredibly hard to make for a company like edelbrock, when they alread have several intakes for vortec heads.

I would definitely be looking to purchase this intake if it became available.

Re: Gauging interest for aftermarket spider>MPFI conversion manifold

I'm in. I didn't see this for a while, I'm sure as soon as other guys see it, they will be in to. It would be a lot easier than swapping in an lt1

It could be marketed as an injection system for all the small blocks with vortec heads, not just trucks. It would be so easy for a carbed vortec guy to get the manifold and go pick a wiring harness/computer/throttle body and tb hat from a junkyard truck. Hey Edelbrock (or any other performance company reading this) The 90s chevy trucks are in the hands of young guys, whether they've been passed down or sold, we've got em and we want more power. Plus in the current economic climate with gas prices shooting through the roof, I'm sure a better flowing manifold could improve gas mileage.

Edit, I just spread the word to the OBS Preservation Society thread.

Re: Gauging interest for aftermarket spider>MPFI conversion manifold

give me a cast chunk of aluminum that will bolt to vortec heads, has 8 holes for bolts to attach with, and 8 holes for injectors to go i, and some sort of gaping hole in the middle to bolt an air-valve of some kind on to, and I'd be as giddy as a a little school girl.

I can make any TB work, and I can cobble some sort of fuel rails together, please, just PLEASE, someone make a MPFI manifold ALONE, for a set of vortec heads, at the least.

Re: Gauging interest for aftermarket spider>MPFI conversion manifold

If you wanted to keep everything fairly stock, you would have to make provisions for:

    EGR
    Thermostat Bypass
    Water Temp Sensor
    Vacuum Brake Booster
    PCV Routing
    MAP Sensor
    Wiring for Injectors
    Throttle Body?
    Ignition Coil Bracket Mount?

Not sure if I missed anything. At that point, you might as well go with the marine setup. It has been tried and tested. Although the Edelbrock intake does come with rails.....So that is nice.

Re: Gauging interest for aftermarket spider>MPFI conversion manifold

you can special order the edelbrock mpfi vortec manifold only with no fuel rails, etc, the part # is 31-3505, Summit lists it sometimes, it has the egr smog hookups.

looks like it. i tried calling them once since then, and got no answer.

anyone who has a few minutes to spare is welcome to try, get a hold of the new products dept., or R+D and get someones email address and follow up after youve sent the email. i think once they find out that theres money to be had here, they might give us a number for an initial production run.

Re: Gauging interest for aftermarket spider>MPFI conversion manifold

Heck, I'd prolly stay with a L31 instead of swapping to an L29 if a decent intake was available. I'd buy one on the spot if one was available.

As I see it, the current L31 options are the marine intake or the ramjet350 intake "kit"...which is $1400.
The SuperRam is another option but it (like the TPI) would force you to ditch your AC...or go to the older R4 AC compressor & accessory drive setup. All of these would require redoing the air intake tubing from the air filter to the engine.

Another option, but I fear it would give up waaay too much low end torque...and would not be a total bolt on.
    Edelbrock manifold P/N 29135
    Edelbrock fuel rails P/N 3631
    Edelbrock intake elbow P/N 3849

Total cost thru Summit $510.29 plus shipping. The intake elbow would give a bit more plenum volume but I'm not sure it would help much with low end torque...especially with those short 2.6" cross section runners. I mean, that intake is a super victor for the vortec heads. While it will bolt up just fine that intake is more intended for the 3500-8500 rpm range. With the elbow you would have more room to drill & tap for vacuum lines going to everything. You could put a port on there for the EGR valve. Certainly not a bolt on, but another difficult solution....cheaper than the marine intake but would require some fabrication.
