This is a discussion on this may sound dumb... within the Performance forums, part of the General Discussion category; but... i did the K&N filter recharge last night and totally forgot which side was the dirty side. is it ...

    my guess would be up, if dirt gets through to the bottom it aint working to well.. just a guess though

    That is what I would say, clean and oil the dirty side and replace with that up. The dirt should be getting caught on the outside not the inside. Go roll in the grass, what side of your shirt gets grass stains the inside or the outside?

    correct me if I'm wrong, but the bottom side of the filter is the dirty side. The air is getting sucked up into the box then it goes through the bottom of the filter, then out of the top of the filter through the MAF screen and into the intake tube.

    At least that's how it looks on my '03 5.3L.
    2003 Silverado Z-71 ecsb, 5.3L, 3.73, 265/75/16 Mastercraft Coursier AT2; Magnaflow 3" SI/SO Cat Back(p/n15778), Blackbear tune... Truck drive's better but my MPG went down slighlty w/ the same driving habits. Justin to the rescue! Stay tuned... no pun intended.

    You got it right. The dirty side is on the bottom.
