Backfire under hard throttle

truck like to backfie at high rpms under hard acceration, anyone know what would cause this?some one told me that backfire under throttle is a bad pickup coil inside the distributor or a completely bad distributor.is this true?

The only way to find out if its the pick up coil is to check it with a multimeter.

its LEAN uptop.. any backfire out the intake like that is a lean spike. check your FP to see if it drops at higher rpm.

is that truck running on the stock tune?

Like said above, backfiring through the intake is most likely a lean condition. If it's afterfiring though the exhaust, you're running rich.

I don't think he's running the stock tune, but I don't think the truck is dialed in right. Russ, pull your plugs and see what color they are. White looking plugs will indicate a lean condition, while black plugs are the opposite.

I had a similar problem once on my truck. I traced it back to bad plugs. It would pop and fart over 5000rpm. New plugs and she was fixed.

plugs look ok normal coloring,only a couple of months old.tunner thinks its a distributor problem. everything is new except the dist., pickup coil. backfire is from the exhaust. like gmc406 said it pops n farts over 4500.

could it be possible that the msd blaster coil toasted my old ass stock ignition module or pickup coil
