the big power in preatty much any engine will come from the air induction, camshaft, and heads so you seem to be on the right track.just shop around and decide on the parts and have someone tune your truck to run the parts.

just take it slow and continue as your budget allows you to.id start with a bigger tb,nice roller cam, some headers, and re gear your truck maybe.that should get you moving nicely.

    Re: the usual

What do you do with the truck? Will you change the converter?

Two big questions regaurding the cam there. With soemthign like that 221/221 a stock stall will make it a dog out of the hole.

Id get 4.30 gears with the 305s. Long tube headers will help, a cam and stall will do a lot. You'll want a shift kit and servos if you do a stall, and even without a cam and stall trans mods are a very good thing to do.

Dont worry about the tb, stock is fine.

the truck is used for everything. running around town down to hauln hay and tractors. idk if i want to go into the tranny very much, i was thinking if i was going to do tranny mods then just go to a 4l80e. but its a dog outa the hole rite now.

wil 4.30s be enough if i decide to go to 315s? or wud i be better off to go ahead and get the 4.56s?

You tow a tractor on a trailer? You def dont want a very big cam. Maybe a 212/218. You should do tranny mods now the way it is. IMO

4.56s then for sure, I didnt know you towed that much either.

    Re: the usual

i pull a 31' travel trailer with this truck too. it weighs in at about 12,100. but wen i haul hay its usualy about 14-15k lbs. i no its not healthy for the truck, but we do it anyways. that is why i was thinking a 4l80e swap. but i need a cam that has more nuts at low end, this thing is a dog till it hits 3500 rpm. but thats with about 14k behind it

    Re: the usual

and if you are pulling that much wight with that truck its a good idea to git a cooler, a deep tranny pan, and even a temp gauge to watch the temperature of the transmission. possibly switch to synthetic.

here is a good how to for some of those.

ive been thinking about a temp guage. is that slot in my dash where i can pul it out and put one in it or is it solid? i know my dads dmax has one for the allison.

again, would i be better off doin all this work to my 4l60e with rite at 100k miles or find a 4l80e?

An hd, denali, ss, or escalade cluster will have a trans temp guage and you just plug the cluster in and the guage works.

Do some research on the 80e swap, its not a one day bolt in easy deal. If you tow that much it would be a good upgrade though.

Deeper gears are gunna be your best bet to make it get up to speed faster pulling a load. Maybe a small cam from Vinci too.

You can have the cluster reprogrammed to your mileage.

    Re: the usual

I think that the dealership can. As far as the cam, if you are planning on pulling a lot, I would go lower then the 221 cause I know how it is with no stall and I would hate to put a load behind my truck with this cam and 3.73s.
