ya i figured that going from 4.10 to 4.88 is a 19 % increase in gear, so that would make a big difference !

Around town was pathetic power/mileage, w/3.73 mileage was about 8-9 highway was 11-12. with the 4.88's now I am getting 12 around town and 15+ on the expressway. depends on speed. I have managed 17 at 60-5 mph.

First hint of the littlle 4.8 giving up I will be going 6.0. Unfortunatly with only 85000 miles, I believe the 4.8 has quite a ways to go......................

wouldn't 4.56 gears be more suitable for 35"? i would put 4.88 on like 37".

4.10s, 35's that measure more like 34 and a 383 should be a pretty good setup IMO. I wouldn't go any lower then 4.56's but thats just me. I guess it depends on what the use of the truck will be. Just seems to me like if you plan on driving it on the highway any it will be turning unecessary rpms.

IMO 4.88's are perfect for 35's.

About 2300 rpm at 70 mph. link below was the discussion about gears when I was deciding....I almost went 4.56's, Glad I went 4.88. Never regretted it. But keep in mind I am talking 4.8. It likes the rpm's. Bigger eng./more torque, probably wouldnt need that steep..I still say 4.88 with a 35" tire

    Superior's new 4.88 Ring & Pinion
Superior Axle & Gear has been working feverishly over the past year to get these gears out of the design stage and into production. The long awaited 4.88 gears from Superior Axle & Gear have finally __LongTerm__ The 4.88 gears are currently available for the AMC Model 20, Dana 30 (standard and reverse cut), as well as the Dana __LongTerm__ Up until now, the lowest gear set available for the Dana 35 was the 4.56. The new 4.88 gears should fill the need for those of us looking for something lower (numerically higher) than the standard 4.56 gear __LongTerm__ new gears were developed specifically for those of us running 33 or 35-inch tires and __LongTerm__ According to Ron Stobaugh at Superior Axle & Gear, they just got back from pre-running the Baja 500 race course in 2 Jeep TJ's, each equipped with 6 cylinder engines. One Jeep was equipped with only the new Super 35 Detroit kit, and the other Jeep was equipped with 35-inch tires, 4.88 gears and a Super 35 Detroit kit. Ron plans to take these same Jeeps on the Rubicon for the Jeepers Jamboree, then to Sierra Trek, and finally to Moab. They are not going to trailer these Jeeps to these events, they are going to be driving them. If this isn't a real life torture test, I don't know what is.
