I have searched and searched but can't find the answer I want.
With my vortec head swap(mods and truck in sig) which sparkplugs will work the best and fit the best with headers?
I do mostly city driving like 6 miles one way so Im not sure whether to use a hotter or colder plug?

I have read use either the ACDelco R44LTS or R44XLS but not sure.

    Thanks
    Devin

x2, I use ACDelco and recommend it to everyone that drives a GM. Any spark plug will work fine, some brands are better than others.

Dont use ACCEL U-Groove header plugs i made that mistake, my truck started missing and dying at stop lights. As soon as I changed them back to delco's it ran like a champ.

    Those cost too much.

In 96 they started using platinum or iridium long life plugs. They are fine, just cost too much for my tastes. I put NGK TR5 GP plugs in mine. That would be a platinum plug, 2.40 ish a plug vs about 4 for the AC Delco's and just as good, maybe better.

Re: Which spark plugs for Vortec headed Tbi

thanks guys that helps a lot. What kind of gap are you guys running with the ACdelco's and NGK's?

I will have taylor wires and an MSD high output coil with mods in sig.

Also Oldred95 I know you did the vortec head swap so is there any little tips or tricks that would help me out cause I'm doin the swap over christmas.

I'm going to keep the stock throttle body with ultimate TBI mods and injector spacer will this be enough air to feed this thing to 5000RPM?

Also what would be a good fuel psi to start with? I'm using the stock 61LB/HR. injectors
    Sorry for all the questions

    Thanks
    Devin

You're right. I use copper core NGK TR6's. I won't but platinums or iridiums again. Besides copper is a better conductor. What do you run for a gap oldred? I'd think .035-.040 would be good.

It may be a better conductor initially but it doesn't last forever and only gets worse with age. Chrysler uses, or did use copper plugs in everything up until a year or so ago and every 30k they need plugs and are always burnt to a crisp.

The platinums came gapped at .040 and there is no real safe way to open the gap without risk of damaging the electrode and .040 is good so I left them at that. That was the recommended gap for the plugs also. Now the AC Delco plugs are supposed to gap to .060.

Yeah you definately need to change them more often than platinum or iridium.

Re: Which spark plugs for Vortec headed Tbi

i had a couple questions in my post 3 posts back and didn't getany answers but I think that they just got over looked so no biggie I was just gonna see if you or anybody else had any input on my questions.

and to add one more question, I am doing this rebuild on the stock bottom end with about 160000 miles and was just wondering when I get it apart if I should hone the bores and replace the main and rod bearings along with a set of new rings.

    Thanks
    Devin

Not too sure on the fuel pressure (13-15maybe) but your TB should easily be good to 5000. As for the honing, bearings and rings......I would. It's cheap insurance.

Re: Which spark plugs for Vortec headed Tbi

Thank you very much. I found the bearings and rings for about
100$ so that isn't to bad considering what I would save if I had to get a new shortblock. I just wanted some opinions so I probably will.

I'm gonna try about 25 psi to start but not sure, I was hoping someone that did the head swap would tell me but I will just have to play with it.

    Thanks
