Oval
They're oval, just a bit smaller than the old 781 and 049 castings. The port opening on the intake manifold is a good bit smaller than the port on the head and it responds well to port matching. There's a thread at www.teamchevelle.com that shows a cutaway shot of the port and you can tell how thick it is where the swirl ramp is located. It really seems that the shrouding caused by the point on the chamber is this head's real restriction. It's a heart shaped chamber, but the chamber walls are deeper and steeper than aftermarket stuff. I have a junk one, may have my guy work it over with his Serdi so we'll find out how much of that point we can cut back. I'm not counting on too much before we hit water.
Well we were thinking about some aftermarket aluminum heads but most of them are rectangle port heads so I dunno. Ill check out the intake setup if I get it.

GM and Edelbrock (same thing) has the 290CC intake runner aluminum deal. Brodix also has a small port oval deal as well. They all work great with small cube (454), 6500 RPM type BB's.
A bunch of 1st gen big block Camaro's
