whats the biggest cam i can put in a 4.8

my buddy has a cam out of a 6.0 can i run it in the 4.8 i just have to change out the springs and new puzh rods idk i what the specs are if anyone can answer this thanks

I just did some quick google searching and found that there were slight variations through the years, but the 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0 all used the same or very similar cam specs.

You're better off going with an aftermarket cam if you are going to go through the trouble of doing the swap.

if you're going to put in a stock cam from another motor, go find an '02-up z06 cam.

best bang for the buck.

Word on not putting in the 6.0 cam. Lot of work for probably no gain.

Eh, I still wouldnt go through the work to swap the cam for that cam. Ive got one on its way to me right now to swap in my truck in place of the big one I have now, but Im doing boost.

I wouldnt do that cam for n/a. IMO

Get something around 216/220, then you'll need valve springs. Id get a new torque converter first, these trucks need them even stock, the cam is going to move your powerband up a little.

I agree that it's a lot of work for the marginal gain that a zo6 cam will net. but without a torque converter, anything bigger is just gonna make things even worse.

Why would you want to know the biggest cam you can run in a 4.8L? Are you interested in a power band that doesn't begin until 4,500+ RPM? Because I'm sure not.
