best cam for 5.3

    i have a 01 chevy 1500 z71 with 6" lift and 35" tires i am about to do a 3" body with 38" tires i pull quite a bit and do not off road much i already have headers k&n and cat back trud dual exhaust what would be a good cam for me i want one that will make my truck lope and one that sounds real mean even if i have to get new lifters and valves springs and rockers

    witch one do you think would be good for me

    Get gears before you worry about a cam.

    With 38s Id get 5.13s or 5.38s.

    Get long tubes too. And if you get a cam that lopes your going to need a new torque converter.

    I'd worry more looking at duration on if a stall is needed...some can have close LSA (lope) and still not need a converter. The 210/216 can still use stock converter, but it all really relates to duration/and LSA.

    A 210/216 isnt going to have a choppy idle though.

    And even a stock truck could really benefit from a converter.

    I second gears or higher stall T/C before cam as well. Choppy idle cams tend to promote top end power gains at the price of low end response and that's not going to help with bigger tires or towing. I know towing requires carrying higher rpms, but even staying in 3rd at approx. 70 mph isn't going to be enough rpms to tap into the gains of an aggressive cam.

    X3 on gears and a converter first, see how you like it, then get a cam that compliments the stall with a wide LSA that will promote that flat, wide torque you want with 38's and towing duties.

    Built tranny sitting in the bed waiting to go in. Good things to come...

    depends if the 210/216 has a 112 LSA or 115LSA tho.

    I will never understand why people pick a cam, based on how it sounds. If that's all your after, tweak the timing at idle.

    The Vinci 080 would be a good choice, but I'd get it on a 116+2.

    I would also recommend gears before a cam. You're killing your tranny with those tires.
