I have a vortec 350, and am looking for a good cam for it. It's a daily, so i don't want anything nasty, but would like some good low end torque. I want to keep it hydraulic roller too.

I was pretty set on the lt4 cam, but have been hearing that it isn't a good low end cam, plus i can't seem to find one.
    What are my options?

LT4 Hotcam, with headwork to accept the lift and computer tune to get the most out of it

Wow did you even read his original post? If he doesn't want the LT4 cam because of it's lower torque output, why would he put in the LT4 Hotcam? It would be even worse for torque.

I'd look at the smaller Lunati Voodoo cams, or a moderately sized Comp Cam (maybe the Xtreme Fuel Injected series?). Both of those would be good for your top end, while maintaining your low-end grunt. Don't go too big or you will end up with less torque.

Have you ever owned anything with an LT4 HC? I have, the 218/228 duration on 112 lobe sep is tame enough in a SBC and will still have respectable low end grunt.

The production LT4 cam has AWESOME low-mid range torque.

^ what he said. My son's 383 has one as does my 355. No shortage of low end grunt, great cam for a daily driver or tow rig. Compare it to the cam I'm putting in my 454 tow truck at 214/220!

Alright thanks guys, i guess it'll come down to the lt4 or comp xfi.

With the lt4 cam though, are there any modifications i need to make to it so it will work?

new valve springs. also wouldn't hurt to use 1.6 rockers with it like they did on the lt4 engine. To do so, you'd need to drill out the pushrod holes a bit. Some say a half inch bit will do. I've used 5/8. Get a tune, shortly after if you can.

    Re: Camshaft help?

I got the rockers and will be ordering the springs when i find a cam, but i thought someone said you have to trim the dowel pin so the cover fits.
Is that the only thing to worry about?

I would lean more towards the comp extreme 4x4 series.

you may find a used one with the dowel shortened already. It's really no big deal to shorten it. Just put the cam gear on there and make a mark for the cut. A simple cut off wheel works find. File down the rough edge a bit. 5 minutes worth of work, max.
