Ive read alot of threads on this, but I still cant decided what to run here.

1993 5.7L getting rebuilt (just stock rebuild, nothing wild) I want to put a cam in that doesnt require me to tune it. I dont care much for top end power, the truck is a daily driver and low/mid torque is more important to me.

Some of the ones I've considered is the comp he252h, edelbrock 3702.

again..just looking for better low/mid torque than the stock setup, and I dont want to tune it.

Changing the cam will require tuning.

    Re: TBI 350 cam choice

agreed alot of the cams say they work well with stock computers and no chips needed. I wanted a lil' igger then stock cam in mine for more power but didn't want to affet the computer so I stuck with a stocker from northern.

does anyone know the max duration and lift I can run before it needs to be tuned? and for the compression question, how much compression can I run before it needs to be tuned?

any changes to the cam, will create changes in the airflow, fuel and spark requirements of the engine. keep it stock, or do the tune.

    Re: TBI 350 cam choice

I bought my cam from northern auto parts. It was in ther timing kit, just look under engine kits and find the cam kit for your year truck, I got mine with lifters and timing set shipped for like $90.

    Re: TBI 350 cam choice

so according to camquest6, the xe249 mentioned above is a great fitting cam for my application and shouldnt need to be tuned.

Now im not stupid, I know it would probly run better with a custom tune, and I might get one made up at one time, but its not going to be super high on my priority list.

huh really?.... i thought it was lower than that..... the 249 cam will run fine on the stock tune, just advance the base timing a few degrees. it wont run optimal but it will run fine.
