There is a learning curve involved in EFILive, but if you're willing to put in the time, it'll be better than any generic programmer out there.

Man dont get either. There are guys who make a living tuning vehicles all day long every day using efi live and hp tuners. Programmers are a waste of money but the learning curve for efi live is steep. Just spend 200-300 bucks and get a custom tune. Best of both worlds, simplicity of a programmer with the awesome gains of efi live.

EFI Live hands down. It all depends on the tuner

Yeah my brother has efi live for his duramax and it takes many many hours to get used to. I would just get a custom tuned pcm and call it a day.

Well then in that case it will take even longer to learn how to use on a gas truck so i definetly wouldnt get it unless your willing to put in some serious hours

Yea usually once a tuner get familiar with that particular software they usually don't change.

Re: efi live or programmer??? which is better for gas?

Its definitely not rocket science. I have a little bit of experience with tuning. My buddy has hp tuners. I can do the basic stuff like get the VE table dialed in after some fuel trim logging in OLSD. Have not tuned a MAF since my buddy is running a SD tune. I beleive it is pretty much the same as dialing in the VE table though. We had a wideband and got his PE tables set up which was easy. I can do the basic stuff like that, adjust torque management, shift settings, PE mode parameters, etc. Its not that hard. However, the spark tables are a whole different story. No idea where to start with that. You would think you could just advance the timing until you started getting KR and then retard it a few degrees, but setting it up for maximum power is not that simple and can only really be done right on a dyno. Thats where the experience that pro tuners have really shines. Thats also what really makes the most hp gains, a good spark table. Automatic transmission tuning is kind of an art in itself. Optimizing the part throttle shifting parameters involves a ton of trial and error to get really good results.

Diesel tuning is def alot easier. Add fuel, add boost, keep a close on your egts, and call it a day lol.

Never said it was, simply said there is a learning curve. The OP is not going to buy it, take it out of the box and be able to have great tunes instantly.

If I was you and going the custom tune route....I would go with a efi live auto cal, one it is cheaper, two you get custom tunes from companies that use efi live, ie.. Blackbear performance. Why not buy the auto cal, data log your truck and send it to just at bb and let him make the tune for you.. It's only 549$ with auto cal and data logged tune. Plus id let him do the tuning since he is obvious a professional and has lots of experience and training tuning gas vehicles as well as proven performance on the dyno, and also free updates as well....jmo

Yea you can firm up shifts, change shift points. When you want your tc to lock up. I made my tow haul so when i press it it will hold any gear until i press it again. And if im on the highway and i press it, it will down shift and unlock the converter and keep it unlocked.
