Cant say for your engine in particular. But helping the engine breathe makes it not work as hard, should help mileage with intake and exhaust. But keep off skinny peddle. Electric fans can help. Tires and lift make a difference. More detail of your rig would help.

    Re: mpg?

from what i've researched there is no need to put in a complete intake just a k and n drop in will do the job because of the vortex air box and the dynomax ultra flow x is a good choice for dual exhaust my only question would be for pcmforless custom tune not really sure what the deal is with that but it claims to get u more hp and mpg but like he said what kind of 350 are we talking about

    Re: mpg?

Take care to realize the cost/benefit ratio. If a custom tune or electric fans cost upwards of $500 and take you from 16mpg to 17mpg, how long is it going to take to recoup that initial investment?

Some free things would be to remove bug shields and side steps (aerodynamics), accelerate slowly, don't ever drive over 60mph, draft semis (not recommended of course, safety first), stay off both pedals as much as possible.

In short, the 350 is never going to be a Prius, spending money to save money isn't the answer, and don't drive like a teenager.

What kind of transmission do you have?, a manual (if you drive it right) will generally get better gas mileage then an automatic because it allows you to keep your rpm's lower

It can, but not enough to notice. I've found with mods like that that are supposed to help with mileage and power, the mileage goes down because your foot gets heavier. And besides, all the money you put into the headers and intake could be better spent on a few tanks of gas.

    Re: mpg?

Make sure it is all tuned up before you go wasting money on headers and a intake. A good running engine will net you better MPG's then putting mods on a un-healthy engine.

    Re: mpg?

a less restrictive intake will not get you better mileage, why?, because when your cruising the biggest restriction in your intake system is the throttle plates

x2! Your only gains will be at WOT Make sure you air cleaner is clean and call it a day...

As for exhaust all I'd recommend is a high-flow cat and headers, other than that it is personal preference for sound.

    Worthwhile mods IMO

Really good tune-up (plugs, cap, rotor, fuel filter, injector screens etc)
    High-flow cat
    Headers
    Electric fans
    Ultimate TBI mods (search)
    Proper gear ratio
    Custom chip

    Re: mpg?

Trade it in for a 4-banger. You can spend a thousand dollars and gain 1MPG, then take 5 years to recoup that cost and break even with a 1MPG savings.

I have the efans and the tbi mods done. seems to help out a little. I dont have the chip yet and I have a 3704 edelbrock intake ready to go on it too. hopefully i may get the Tahoe up to 18...lol

But, on that note...It's totally paid for, so I don't worry about the fuel as much because there is no payment.
