Cold air intakes are so over priced For not much gain so I wanted to do it on the cheap. I bought a kit off eBay it was like 60 bucks and I just used the tube and not the open air box and filter it came with I wanted to keep the stock airbox. it fit good for the most part I might shorten it like 1/2 inch so it's a little easier to get off but other than that it's a direct fit.![]()

I would love to go with a intake for power and looks but after seeing dyno results where the airaid tube with stock filter setup works best, thats what ill do. This would be cheap way to go for looks but I wonder what it does power wise??
I considered the air aid tube and it was like 120 and I figured this is the same exact thing just cheaper

Nice work! the metal will absorb more heat compared to the plastic ones you can buy, but it kind of is a wash, maybe you could wrap it in reflective tape.

Yeah I didn't think about that it seemed to stay pretty cool tho but I'll have to watch it. Next I wanna mod my air box for some more air enterence.

I did the exact same thing, find the thread called FREE dollar cold air intake...cuz my uncle gave me the tube from his eBay kit....I know ppl say that the metal tube absorbs more heat but the air going into the tube is moving so fast that it doesn't have time to heat up...its not like it stops and heats up and then continues on lol, so the material of the tube has zero effect on the incoming air, all that matters is that it's smooth going in
What the OP and I did is the same basic thing as the airraid tube, I also got a free k&n filter for my stock box too...I noticed a very nice increase in throttle response and a little more "get up and go" throughout the upper rpm range

By the looks of it I cant imagine the tube from airraid could be any better.

Ill be copying this.
I'm very happy with the results seems to help quite a bit. At first I didn't put a new filter on and I did yesterday and It seemed like I could tell a little bit more than I already could. A new paper filter is like 10 bucks so I'll change it out quite a bit for that price. Overall I'm vary happy with it.

So the stock box works better than my K&N half box contraption? Hmm looks like I'll be making a swap. On 2nd thought will my stock 5.3 box work with the 34in rad and e fans I have?

You must have missed BlackBear's dyno runs.

MMMkkk Im going out to the garage now to swap it out lol. I guess it looked but didnt perform better.
Nope won't work. K&N tube is a different angle and won't fit onto the stock box.
