With all the details but the motor was dynoed last night. Here are the specifics on the motor:
383 AFR vortec heads
XFI 268 cam
9.7 -1 comp (91 octane)
Motor is set up for efi but was dynoed with a single plane with a 750
428hp
478tq
Builder and dyno operator said with the efi manifold look for another 15-20hp with tq about the same . Over all very happy, plus it was dynoed on pump gas. 91 octane
Take care

'92 Sierra (TBI 383/Vortecs/Comp 08-412-8/EBL/4L60/3.08s), '78 Malibu (Vortec'd 350/4-speed/2.29s), '87 Pontiac Fiero GT (2.8 v6/5-speed)
No I dont even have the motor back yet, its in southern ca, Im in eastern ma. Ill post it up when I get it shipped to me. Picked up a complete Hsr with tb and injectors for $600. Really goood deal.Builders mouting it now should be shipping it soon. Thanks for comments. I think the torque is just phenominal. My friends are saying now that my camaros 355 is gonna have a run for its money against the tahoe, lol Will update when I get it. Take care.
nice numbers
Thanks, well if anyone needs info on weather the vortec afrs work here is some proof. Blows the doors off a ht 383 out of the box. Thing is I paid right aroud that price for this motor maybe a tad more. Thinking if I pushed the envelope and went 11.1 it would have broke 500ft lbs. Cant wait to see what it does with the stealth ram. Take care.
Nice numbers! Making me wish I went 383 with my truck build...
That's also more than my Camaro with less cam and less compression. Very impressive.
80 Camaro Z28 - 550hp AFR 383 EFI / T56 6spd
91 Beretta "SS" - 220hp 3400 MPFI / HM282 5spd
94 Silverado Z71 - 300hp Vortec 357 TBI / NV4500 5spd build thread
Who is the builder in Cali and how much you got in it.$$ Just trying to get some comparison numbers. Thanks
Builder is L&R Engine in Ca : http://www.lnrengine.com/index.html
Ask for Derek, awesome to deal with tell him Darren in Ma refered you. Base price was 3 with iron vortecs but this includes any cam custom ground and a fully asembled 383 long block. I upgraded to afr vortecs plus comp roller rockers plus forged pistons. I paid about 5000 for the long block way better value than the ht 383 from gm. 430 hp and 478 ftlbs, will more hp with stealth ram. Plus with the forged pistons a littl boost or no2 is doable, depending on what you want to do. He built over 50 of the 383 vortec setups after he built one for a performance truck mag article that ran about 8-10 years back in a mag. He deals with the guys from westec and has a few chevy mag editors that he deals with on stories. Im going to actually have him build me another motor this fall for next year for my camaro. He also does alot of 396 small block stroker stuff. I may go that route or 406. When I first called him I asked him since the article and since all the truck vortec builds hes done what he would do differently. What I upgraded was his recomendation. I will post pics of the motor this weekend soon got it on tues. Hope this steers you in the right direction. Take care. Btw the article is on their page under Sport Truck Mag, called Streetable Stroker. Take care

This is almost the exact motor I am building exce
pt I am using stock vortecs heads and intake manifold. Can anyone tell me what the power differences are between the two heads. Thinking less horsepower and more torque with production vortecs?

The injection spider's max hp is around 400, and you may not make much more than that anyway with unported Vortecs.

Desktop dyno said 340hp/510ftlbs but I don't know exactly how accurate that is. Im building it for torque not horsepower Im just trying to make sure I won't max out the stock injection
1983 G20 Conversion Van, 383 TPI, 10.5:1 compression, Custom Reed Roller cam, Ported 906 Vortecs, Doug Thorley Tri-Y headers, dual 2 1/2" exhaust, 4L60E, 3.08 gears. 7427 PCM in MPFI Mode
DD is a little optimistic on the low end. What specific cam are you planning on?

Xfi 268 218/224 .570 .565 113 lsa
That'll probably be good for around 400-420hp... the heads need port work to take advantage of all the extra lift (not to mention machine work to even work with that much lift), by then if they're ported right, it'd probably be closer to the 440-450hp range.
