    Hey folks,

header time is nearing for me and my 5.3L Silverado. Before I take the plunge, does anyone know of any drawbacks outside of price that are associated with adding headers? Will it still pass CA smog? How much louder will the exhaust be (with Corsa touring exhaust), will gas milage improve with regular driving conditions (no burnouts for me with $400 tires)?

okay, so it's more than a couple of questions. Finally, a muffler shop in town told me that Edelbrock ceramic headers are superior to JBA or Doug Thorely ceramic headers, any other opinions or suggestions. I have a 2003
Z71 Silverado with the 5.3L V8 (true flow intake, corsa touring exhaust).

thanks for any replies in advance

Ok, for starters headers are a great adition to any performance setup. The only draw back is for the first month or so you have to tighten the headers untill the bolts and everything get seated in.To avoid such a problem you can buy one of several self locking header specific bolts found in your handy JEGS or SUMMIT magazine. As far as brand goes edelbrock does make a very nice set of headers, I couldnt really say if they are better than anyone else, but they are nice.As far as emissions goes just check and make sure that they are CARB and EPA approved. All approved headers will have a tag welded on them with several numbers on them, they are CARB and EPA numbers.
