V6 exhaust

This is a discussion on V6 exhaust within the Exhaust forums, part of the Performance category; anyone here have a flowmaster exhaust or dynomax one dumped on a V6? I am just wondering if it would ...

    anyone here have a flowmaster exhaust or dynomax one dumped on a V6? I am just wondering if it would sound good at all.

    chevy 400 Race mod'd holley 750 carb.( R.I.P. broken cam crank and anything else u can name bottom end lol)
    custom th350 B&M shifter and kit's.
    *soon* 383 stroker, yet to decide boost or NA.

    A friend had a Flowmaster 40 2 xhamber on his 4.3 Vortec Blazer and it sounded terrible, might as well have been an import. Best 4.3 sound is on eof the worst on a V8 and its just running 3 inch straightpipe off the stock cat. Is very deep and sounds like aV8, buddy of mine convinced a lot of people he had a 350 in his truck by the sound even though it was only a 4.3.

    I would highly recommend against going with a straight pipe, mainly due to the high pitched sound it will produce. I had glasspacks on my '01 4.3 for about a year and it sounded really sweet and startup and idle, especially inside the cab. It was extremely loud and everyone thought it was a v8. Only problem was...if you took it above 2000-2500 rpm it sounded like a honda. My bro has glasspacks on his '99 4.3 silverado and it's starting to burn up I guess, so it's starting to sound better, but I'd never put gp's on a 4.3 again.

    I got tired of that rice bs so I switched to a single in dual out dumped dynomax super turbo. It sounds nothing like a v6 and nothing like stock. In fact it is always mistaken as a v8. It's loud and sounds like bass. Only time it sounds rice is if you take it above 4000-4500 rpm's. Other than that it is loud and extremely deep.

    I've got a Flow 40 series single/dual out dumped and it's the same as Baddassilverado stated above. Sounds like a V8 for the most part, until you really get on it.

    The 4.3 sounds terrible at high rpms with alot of exhaust's....but at idle its hard to tell it from a V8 with most decent cat back exhausts....staright pipes on the other hand IMO might as well buy a Brospeed tip and a giant wing

    I like the dynomax dumped idea but I wasn't sure if I could since this is a jimmy and not an open bed truck. high flowing short exaust would be the best ( better turbo spool times) I guess I'll have to live with the ricer sounds at high RPMs it's the low that I would like it to sound alittle more agressive. I went to get a quote and they said 200 for dual out the back on a flowmaster with 3" tips and that was about all I would be able to do. if I can dump it I would rather do that.

    That's a good price for the duals out the back. My friend has a '97 2DR Yukon w/ dual dumps, so you might be alright running dumps. As long as the are angled down and out and you don't idle it for long periods of time.:)

    3 inch straighpipe with the cat does not sound like a ricer, its very deep and doesn't get high pitched, smaller pipe may but the big doesn't its those 40 series flows that do that for you. Glasspacks sound like crap, friend had true duals with purple hornies but got tired of people asking him why he had a Honda engine and exhaust on the truck. Like stated at high rpm a V6 sounds crappy regardless og the exhaust. Could try a Ravin though very nice throatey deep sound but the 2 chamber flows sound like crap, maybe the Deltaflows sound better but who knows, I can't be bothered with Flowmaster, if I wanted a to sound like a 5 litre Tin stang I would have bought one.

    I put 40Series (delta series) flows on my I6 4.0 (250ci) just for kicks and it sounds suprisingly decent. Idle and low end sounds OK, when I really get on it, it sounds good. I was suprised about that part. Its just doing me over until I have my 350 all the way built.

    I mean, you really cant make a V6 or I6 for that matter, sound like a V8, its just different architechture of the engine and produces a different tone due to the increased ci of the engine.

    I have headers and cherry bombers on my I6 but V6's sound totally different to me. I dunno why lol but they just sound more like a 4 then the I6's do.

    the biggest reason they sound different is that there are 3 cylinders per side compared to 4...thats why they sound better at lower rpm's than at higher rpms, the 4.3 is probably the best V6 as far as Exhuast note because its basically a 350 minus 2 cylinders

    On my s-10 i've got the cat, and a pipe running to right behind the cab. It sounds great at idle...Like i've got a racin cam People always ask what I've got and swear its a 8 when I'm sittin at the light...Its not ricey at all, all the way till 5200rpms and that thing barks at you when you let off I've scared numorous girls when I shift
