I know this is a very popular topic and has been posted many times but i am kinda desperate. I am looking for o2 simulators for a '06 chevy z71 5.3l. I have removed the cats and the check engine light came on finally after a week of normal driving. But the shops here in town cant help me. I have found simulators for an '03 do you think these will work? Or is there another way to get rid of the light? Thanks in advance for any information

put your cats back on, not having them is point less..... there not restricting your exhaust flow, or causing massive back pressure..

I agree, you're not going to get any performance gain from taking yor cats off. And god forbid you ever go to the dealer for warranty work, they'll bust you in a heartbeat.

    to everything stated above.

    No cats.....

I can't say much, because my last truck didn't have cats.... but then again, it was another '96, and had a little more restrictive cats than you. Plus back in the day I thought it was cool to drive around with no cats like it was an inbred cadillac.

Get a tune, or e-mail casper's and see if they have o2 sims for a newer truck than '03. lurken, if their are no o2 sensors behind the cat, you can take it off if you want to, as far as I know. Ofcourse, I'm the minority, I've been running with out cats on my 5.3 for 2 years now. I honestly didn't notice any performance loss, I just did it for a different sound, I'm happy with it. To each their own.
edit: I've called casper's electronics back when I did this, and they were very helpful, fyi.

    You have to either:

    A. Buy a programmer which has O2 deletion capabilities
    B. Get a custom tune.
    >>>>C. Gain a few IQ points, learn from my mistakes, buy high-flow cats, and be done with it!

No cats adds an inbred rednecky sound to these trucks. I know there's no-cats fans out there, and even I thought it was cool when I first got it, but go with high-flows if you're that worried about it.

Another option is looking into 3/4ton exhaust (factory). It used bigger piping, and bigger cats = better flow.

    I'm LMFAO
No offense, but who goes to a shop and asks to have a 3/4 ton exhaust put on their truck. So, maybe a 3/4 ton of a certain year has a 6.0, or older, maybe a 454. That might, might mean that their pipes are larger than a 1/2 ton that has a 5.3 or a 350???
As far as the original poster/question, you have already gotten rid of the cats, unless you put them back on, you need to figure it out. Either by a tune, or by o2 sims, 'nuff said.

i just got high flows, i dont think cats restrict enough to make a difference, my local exhaust shop says they only restrict a fraction of a percent, not sure if thats true or not

    Re: Catalytic converters

get a tune or call caspers like the guy above stated. was wanting to take mine off my 05 5.3 but im not till i get a tune and it gets a couple thousand more miles. sittin at round28,000 now and waitin till at least 30,000 cause the warranty and all. i had a 99 5.3 and had a lot of different setups and was never to impressed with the sound outt these trucks with no cats. what kinda muffler are you runnin? im not takin my cats off unless i hear or know mufflers thst work and sound good. just dont have the good sound of the 350's imo. got bullets now and dont think they would sound good without cats. if anybodys got a 5.3 and no cats waht yall runnin for muffler and do you like it? thanks
