    hey guys,

i recently took off the exhaust (unbolted it from the flange after the Y) on my 04 silverado...and it sounds amazing...can i leave it like that or would it eff up anything? i hear some folks saying that i can warp my exhaust valves but i think that highly unlikely...

plus i like the smell of exhaust coming into the cab so...

    thanks fellas

It won't hurt anything...(unless there's an O2 sensor in the disconnected pipe)
It'll just give you a headache.

In short, NO. The no exhaust or to short exhaust harming the valves is a myth. so say that with no exhaust or to short of an exhaust will allow teh exhaust valves to cool between strokes and the constant heating and cooling will warp the valves. it is a myth at best, no harm to be done other than a loss of back pressure causing a weak low end.

If you can smell the exhaust in the cab, then you can't smell to carbon monoxide thats in the cab too . Good luck with that. Anything to make it louder I guess

Why would you want this to happen? Its dangerous and it would eventually stink up your basically new truck.

okay, so to avoid killing myself with CO, i ordered a center pipe off of rockauto.com for $50, and i am gonna weld on a couple of bends to make it dump out before my rear pass. tire, here's another question though, is a straight pipe louder than say, a dynomax bullet?

I think that a 1 chamber flowmaster is one of the loudest I've heard. Definitly louder than a straightpipe or a cherrybomb.
