My exhaust guy is trying to get me to go with the 18 inch muffler from magnaflow but I thought it would be better(better sound) to go with the smaller one but he said I would get deeper tone from longer muffler and high pitched from short muffler. what do you guys think? Oh yeah should I "break my truck in" before I get an exhaust put on? and do I really need 3 inch piping on a v-6?he said I do. thanks for all the help. still trying to figure out what to do.

I dont think you'd need 3" since thats what the 5.3's use! What he says about muffler size and sound is about right - was on the phone with Magnaflow yesterday and they told me the same thing. They said stay with a 5x11 oval for the 5.3 (Im sure thats a good choice for the v6's too).

3 inch is way to big for a V6. stick with the stock pipes, just swap the muffler.

and the muffler guys logic does make sense. deeper sounds are more powerful than higher ones. so in longer mufflers, the deep notes will make it through and high pitched ones might not.
    BUT
thats not to say a short muffler is high pitched. as it still has the deeper notes as well.
