I found some time to take some pictures of my recent exhaust change. This is the same setup as Silverado_13's except that I went the stainless steel route and ran some more 3" pipe after the muffler to extend the turndown farther away from the cab. Also, the fabricator that I had weld and create what you see mounted the muffler as far back as possible to help fight unwanted cab drone.

I finally got a chance to do some highway miles and test it out at speeds from 50 to 95 mph!! Unless I am being aggressive, the system had very good manners and what little drone there is doesn't even compare to the drone of my old Gibson Super Truck system, which wasn't too bad of a drone maker to start with. The more I drive with this setup the more pleased I am with it's characteristics.

I also got a chance to burn through over half a tank of gas, most of the miles being city style driving and was able to do some more mpg calculating since having my tune installed. I got an honest 14.5 city. That's a solid 1.5 gain in city economy for me and a few of those miles were heavy footed due to the new exhaust.

I learned how to make a video... simpler than I thought but I am a total rookie at it. The camera ran out of memory just before the truck started so I will have to work on getting a good video sometime soon.

    here's the pics.

Sure it looks nice, but it's tucked under there so high that unless I crawl under there, no one can see it. Oh, well, what can you do.

Looks awesome...bet all that SS piping was expensive but well worth it in the end. Seems like it would be pretty loud, is that the pro street muffler? I wonder what difference there is between the pro street and super pro street.

150 for the int. pipe which also doubled as the pipe exiting the muffler and the turndown

150 for the muffler. So your looking at a 300 dollar setup right there. Much cheaper than my other options by far, but still, not nearly as cheap as using aluminized stuff and say a Cherry Bomb muffler.

There are only three circular shaped sound altering devices in there (unique to spintech) so one would think it would be obnoxious. But it's suprisingly very civil.

I was debating on the muffler choice and the only difference I could hear between the pro street super pro street was that the super pops more on decel. Other than that they are pretty equal.

I forgot to mention, yes that is the Pro Street muffler.

Does it get pretty aggressive when you rev it? I like a little rasp to it.

Re: SS Spintech update > Pictures

Pretty and aggressive don't belong next to each other when describing the sounds this setup makes, but raspy is exactly how I would describe the sounds it makes when the revs climb.

The fact that my setup is a turndown has a lot to do with how it sounds to anyone who is not seated in the truck. I have never tried a turndown before and now that I have experienced it I don't think I will ever bother with running pricey dressed up tips again. Anything at 1/4 throttle or more now gets transformed into this clean muscular sound reminiscent of GM muscle cars from the late 60's.

When the truck is at idle, it has just a bit of a chop to it, almost as if it has an altered cam.

If I rev it up high while in park, on decel there is a quick pop or two right away but as the rpms continue to drop the popping goes away and it sounds clean as the rpms drop back to idle.

I let someone else drive my truck away from me at about 1/4 throttle while I stood behind the truck and it was the sweetest thing I have heard in a while. To me, that's when you know your happy with your choice of exhaust.

I will work on creating more free memory in my camera to allow a nice drive-away video in the near future now that I know how to create one and upload it through my photobucket account.

I was working on that... getting a clip. My digital camera took a dump but I managed to find a better one. The memory card was too small to record anything longer than 5 seconds so I have since swapped that out to a much larger one that should work perfectly. However, since that time I have been crazy busy with running a few marathons and now I have to fly to Wisconsin for a funeral. So, when I get back from this trip I will take the time to create some videos and I will PM an update directly to you as you seem more interested in this than most.

Re: SS Spintech update > Pictures

no worries man...I'm just itching to buy an exhaust and I'm trying to get a feel for each mufflers sound characteristics...I hear spintech pro streets on GTOs on youtube and they sound great, but when I hear them on a truck system that sound like a flowmaster to me.

I'm thinking I might go with pacesetter LTs, modify the stock Y pipe into duals with 2.25" piping into a magnaflow x pipe with 2 super pro streets and then out near the stock location with two side sweep tips, sorta like the lightning exhaust exit but after the rear wheel.

It just hit me...can I even use my stock y pipe with pacesetter LTs, or do I need a custom Y pipe made?

    Thannks,
    Keith
