Will the long tube headers from a say 95 model tbi 5.7 fit a 98 vortec 5.7 understanding that will need to weld on a egr tube and relocated the o2 sensors. reason I ask is a set for 4x4 on the 95 is $155 compared to over $400 for the vortec.
Thanks

yes, you should be able to do that no problem. exhaust from there back will have to be fabricated, which shouldnt be an issue since the stock heapipes are crap anyways.

I bought headers for my 95 and did a test fit to the 98 vortec engine I'm putting in it. Everything looked fine. I think those vortec headers assume you are keeping all of your original egr and O2 crap. That's why they cost more.

Set a email to Hedman, this is there reply.
Hello:
Yes, the 69440 will for the truck, but your Vortec heads prefer d port hedders, and that hedder is not available in d port.
Thank you,
Hedman

The 96+ headers have an exhuast port on them since the vortec motors use an EGR fitting on the stock manifolds.
Without it hooked up, youll probably throw a code. Id think it would need unplugged too or youd have an exhuast leak when it opened. Id recommend having it deleted via a computer tune.

Can you put the egr sensors from the 96+ manifolds in the headers for a 95? id like to put headers on my 96 too, and would love to buy the cheap 88-95 ones if i could.
also, if i put headers on and didnt hook up the sensors, would the motor still run good or not?

I have shorty's on it now, If all goes properly I will try to install the tbi's on mine first of the year. re weld the EGR port to the new headers from the shorties. But with the holidays and kids, no play money at this time.

Yep, I drive right by there on my way from Grapevine to Bridgeport on 114.Originally Posted by f350_6x6
TBI headers will fit fine with Vortec heads. You just need to add bungs in the header collectors for the pre-cat 02 sensors. I would replace the cats with some high flow aftermarket units. Finally the EGR fitting can be bought and added to keep you smog compliant.

yea i was just about to add this. The TBI headers only have a pre cat o2 in one of the headers where a vortec needs a precat o2 in each header. I'm not sure if the o2 sensors are the same style or not. I've got a set of hookers sittin in my garage that I at least need one bung welded into.Originally Posted by Fast305

So TBI headers will work fine for me since Im blocking my EGR and have no 02 sensor bull****?
Pacesetter longtubes for vortecs are to ****ing expensive.
Think of O2 sensors less like emissions bull**** (evil) and more like a fuel economy item. I'm getting longtubes in a couple days and have bungs in hand (1 for stock O2, 1 for WB).
The TBI headers should include O2 sensor bungs in them. Just not the EGR fittings.

They only have them in one side. Not in both. I have a set in the box in my garage right now. They will need one o2 sensor welded in the other header to work on a vortec motor.Originally Posted by ZZ4Blazer

Yup, he's right, teh TBI headers willonly have a single O2 sensor bung and its not in the correct Vortec position.Originally Posted by 97whitez-71
I always thought you could use the TBI O2 sensor bung as an EGR feed, then install 2 other O2 sensor bungs in the collectors.
I have been running the 2462 1hkr TBI headers on my Vortec 350 for 8 years now.
