I have my PaceSetters on the way, bought them like 2 weeks ago and they still aren't supposed to be here until the 30th. I already have the ORY pipe and extra parts waiting. But since I was scheduled to get them installed on the 29th my plans went straight to hell in a hand basket so there's no tellin when i'll get them installed. Look at dino charts for our model trucks with the PaceSetter longtubes on it and you'll make your mind up pretty quick, they offer about 25-30 extra horse's and about the same in torque. I'd more than likely go with the PaceSetters because most people have them and like them.
Good luck!!
i was wanting to put an x pipe on it, do they make them for our trucks or do i have to get a universal

I have Summit shorty ceramics on my 89 wich are made by Flowtech.
They were easy install, look good and sound good. You definatly need a new y pipe cause the stocker really sucks.Since your ad it, you might as well do the rest of the exhaust if you want the best performance gains of headers.

I just started thinking about this stuff for the ol' truck....sold my mustang and now I have nothing to tweek.
Headers have always been the best bang for the buck modification (i'm not talking about turbos and chargers with that). But headers are really good mods to do for a bugdet price. While CAI's give you about 15 hp max on our trucks a set of longtubes will give you almost double that power and only a few hundred more bucks. But only long tubes will give you that kind of power. But long tubes, and tri-y's will give you the most power gains; shortys don't produce much extra power, thats why most people with trucks like the long tubes for the extra low-end power we need. But yes those power gains are accurate but some will be more and some will be less. Also forgot to mention a custom tune is right up thier with the headers as far as bang for the buck performance gains.
Oh, forgot to answer your question in my last post but that is just with the headers, the HP numbers will be in that range. Now with the whole exhaust (headers, cats, and mufflers your looking at about 30-40 extra horses. But now 40 extra horses just off the exhaust is quite a stretch but can be done depending on how you vehicle responds to the parts and what parts you use.
Hmm....I guess the exhaust manifolds on these trucks are pretty restrictive. Thanks.

Long tubes always make more power across the band then short tubes. Make sure the primaries are properly sized for your mods. Short tubes will still make power over stock manifolds, but I have seen as much as 20whp more across the band and 35whp peak between shorties and long tubes. The only downside to long tubes is installation, and if you live in an emmissions area with a tailpipe sniffer it may be more difficult to pass due to the o2 sensors not getting enough heat.
If you're buying used headers, try to find a set that has a one piece exhaust flange rather then individual flanges for each cylinder. As the headers heat up the individual flanges can warp slightly forming themselves to the head of the motor they are on. A subtle difference in machining between motors (within OEM spec for tolerance) can cause the used header to not fit your motor perfectly and can result in a leak, and will make installation more tedious.
It's usually worth while to get ceramic coated headers as well. However if the coating is only external the benefits are marginal, whereas a header coated internally as well as externally can show another 5hp gain over uncoated. Plus the coating keeps them looking decent longer then just paint. You could always pick up a set of headers and send them out to http://www.swaintech.com/ for a proper coating.
