I think Trucks! is doing it on their demo truck. Maybe a deferred memory thing?

many derby guys run them that way. most locally run DEC headers, or build their own. however on SBC, you can usually just flip over the factory manifolds and add a little pipe to upturn them

Re: Exhaust pipes coming out of the hood

If you do that you have to cut a long rectangle around thhe pipes or have them two piece for when opening the hood

Usually it's rectangular holes at least that's what i've seen. I want to do this on a car I get, but it's not street legal and I want to drive around like that to see the looks on peoples faces with that sound and flames shooting out of the headers.

Re: Exhaust pipes coming out of the hood

We built some custom headers like that for an 87 Accord DX (carbed motor) 5-speed at school we used as a dirt track racer. We built a custom intake and stuck 2 stock 1bbl carbs on top. I know a single 2bbl or 4bbl is more practical but they were free so we said why not it looks cool, adds power and it's just a junker car anyways. That car really moved for a little 4 banger with it's custom exhaust and hood scoop grafted onto the stock hood, I shoulda taken pics of the beast. It's too bad that car was sold it was so awesome for being a junker car. Most of the class built that car, me and 2 other guys built a 94 Escort to enter in the race also and that car wasn't as fast or cool looking.

Sorry about being off topic. Anywho anybody seen the Cheviac videos on David's farm on youtube? I'd post links to them but that'd take me too long since my computer is so freakin slow.

How do those things treat you fume wise? I had open headers on my dodge for a week or so and things got extreme in that cab after a few minutes. I'm getting a head ache just THINKING about it.

really, they're not that bad. not being under the vehicle, it dissipates pretty easy. being that the trucks sit so high, with the doors welded shut and the rear window being a pain in the ass to get in and out of, you really have to watch yourself getting in and out through the windshield. no heat on the floorboards this way.

here's what i'm generally contending with on the interior getting in and out.

Re: Exhaust pipes coming out of the hood

if you ever watch Trucks, you'll probably have seen their demolition derby truck buildup. that's what its for. we've got a crew of about 30-40 of us who are into it pretty heavy (crew, drivers, family, significant others included), we basically run our local fair derby. pretty much rewriting the rule book every time. its kinda hard to argue with someone about the way their truck is built "against the rules" when 9/10 of the trucks that show up are built identically.

here's a pic of the trucks we took in '07.
    4 73-87 C10s, 1 77 F250, and 1 65 F100.

i havent driven one since 05, but i've hads the itch for well over a year now. probably going to try to find another 70s C20 for this summer.
